gas prices compared to 70's oil crisis

There’s a Ford TV ad spot running locally showing an actor plugging in an electrical cord in the bed of an F-150 lightning. Audio accompanying that goes “We’re going to need a bigger lot!” 😆
Are you sure that's for the Lightning? That port is not unique to the Lightning version.

What is the IQ of the average Republican these days vs in the '70's?

Well. We'd be lucky these days if it's even in the '70's

This fucking guy @GunsMadeAmericaFree coming in here to carry water for Trump.

What an evil piece of dumb fucking shit. Move to Russia scum.
Been on here longer than you, buddy. I just like to bring perspective to things when I see people running around like the sky is falling. For example, when I read an article about a stock price 'crash', and then see that it went down 4%. Or when I see a line graph that seems to show a huge change, but then you notice that the graph starts up at 180, instead of zero.

But yes, I'm glad I have a car that gets about 40mpg right now.

You are such a dumb evil piece of shit and should move to Siberia.

This is the third time in this thread that you have posted a content-less attack on a poster. Your responses abuse the latitude we allow here.

Yup you've really got it all figured out.

Gas is 3.45 at the place that's usually the cheapest near me. Couple weeks ago it was 2.75

All these fucking piece of shit Trump supporters were so mad about gas prices and blaming Biden on a worldwide pandemic that was not his fault and didn't even start when he was in office.

But now that Trump literally starts a war and is the reason gas prices spike, it's not a big deal. These people are the worst people in the world.

They really are the dumbest of the dumb. It's not a coincidence his polling ratings are mirroring the illiterate rating of the country.

But given that this was completely an artificially manufactured crisis just to soothe Trumps ego and distract from stuff he doesn't want people talking about and has led yo a lot of unnecessarily dead children and a massive hit to the global economy I'm struggling to see why you'd want to spin it as anything apart from a disaster made by incompetents.

Sure, the shockwaves rippling through oil and gas is a strong incentive to go green....
This isn't the way to go about it.

LOL the Trump regime is infamously opposed to renewable energy, and even more so against environmental protection. Protecting pedophiles is a helluva drug.

Depends on the capabilities you need. It's certainly going to be much smaller than the F-150.
while true, I was objecting more to new BEV depreciation, esp. on a dead-end platform. As for capabilities, Boomer already has a not-old F-150. But it's his money and as they say "you can't take it with you."

If I gouge my fucking eyes out my sense of hearing will improve, making my long-term sense of hearing much better.

MAGA

Seriously considering picking up a Honda Prologue off lease or some other BEV with significant depreciation. Of course the orange dipshit canceled all the tax credits but the depreciation on some used BEVs more than makes up for it. Can still get a credit on 240v Level 2 charger installation until June I believe.

Good ol' "FYGM". Diesel is now at the most expensive price I've seen since I got my diesel vehicle 6 years ago. Saying "well it's not as bad as the oil crisis in the 1970s" is a bizarre defense of what is likely to go down in history (at least outside this country) as the worst presidency in US history. I can afford it, but it also means prices go up for everything else. Why don't you care about this impact on your fellow citizens, instead mounting a tepid defense of "it could be worse?"
Especially because it is very likely going to get worse.
One positive development could be that more solar, wind and nuclear power will come online, which will save lives over time due to decreased air pollution.
You are fascinatingly stupid. This administration is rabidly anti-renewable energy.

On the day the Exxon Valdez ran aground in 1989 in Alaska, I drove by a station on my way to work. Gas was 99.9. The gas price was 1.099 on the way home, up 10% in just eight hours.

That was just one ship, probably not even noticeable in the global market, even considering the pollution probably interrupted shipment from that one port.

I was kind of curious about how today's gas prices compare to those back in the 70's, during the oil crisis. (2 of them, actually, 1973 and 1979) When you adjust for inflation in today's dollars, typical prices from both of the spikes in the 70's, people were paying about $4.85 on average in 2026 dollars for gas. Here in Ohio, where they say prices have jumped the most, we are paying about $3.25 a gallon.

So it isn't a great feeling at the pump, but to put into perspective, we were paying about 50% more in the past spikes.

Compare to the 2010-2012 time period, Over $5+ a gallon inflation adjusted. At the time on Anandtech it was the subject of a lot of debate. I remember at the time wishing I had a electric car and I could generate my own power. Now I have both.
