Gas or Electric

Both are an option for my new house. The gas dryers cost $60 more. Gas prices are on the upswing and the water heater, furnace and stove are gas.

Gas prices may be on the upswing, but they've got a LONG way to go to reach electric. Electric heat is hideously expensive, not to mention an inefficient use of a high-quality energy source.

Of course, check your local utilities...some places have weird pricing schemes that will screw you if you try to mix your utilities too much. However, if all the other stuff in your house is gas, you should be fine.

edit: In case it isn't immediately obvious, I'm voting GAS. For pretty much all forms of heating.

The guys at both home depot and lowes were making it sound like an electric is the way to go. In Arizona you use alot of electricity during the summer and the winter the heat is on rarely.

From Lowes' site:

Gas appliances usually cost slightly more initially, but tend to be more energy- efficient. A leading consumer affairs magazine estimates that a gas dryer costs 30 cents less per load to operate.

after using this guys spread sheet and a looking at the current cost of gas (~$1/therm+delivery charge) the spread sheet is pretty much a wash depending on how many loads I do a week. It would take too long to recoupe the difference in cost and installation with a gas dryer at current gas prices.

All your other appliances are gas, and gas appliances are superior anyway. GET GAS!

GAS! My family has a Gas dryer that we bought from Home Depot I believe a couple of years back and it is the bomb beezie (sp?). Gas is rockin' and cracka lackin' with the heat smackin' to the clothes ya know? Can you dig it, cool cat?
