So, I am planning to get a weed wacker/trimmer. Is it better to get a gas powered one, or an electric one?
=

Gas. I had an electric one, once, but it was such a pain having to worry about the extension cord. Gas is the way to go.

IMHO, I'd go with a gas powered one, more power and you don't have to worry about slicing your extension cord.

I had a little electric one until me wife bought me an Echo gas trimmer. It has a curved shaft, which I believe is easier to use.

One thing I do miss about the electric trimmer is that it was so light. Also--it took a while to get used to having the weight of the trimmer high and behind me on the gas trimmer, as opposed to low and ahead of me in the electric trimmer.

Having to keep another gas can for the gas trimmer is a pain.

In short--if you have a small yard and puny grass/weeds--go with an e-trimmer.

"...you can get add-on's like a blower/vacuum attachments..."

Horrible compromises. Pay the freight up front for good quality tools. You'll be ahead in the long run, plus get the job done faster and easier in the mean time. Look for Echo, Stihl or even Weedwacker brand. Buy a straight shaft for higher durability.

That's what a shoulder strap is for. My stepdad had this huge gas trimmer that had "handle bars." He used it with no problem; I'd get tired after 5 minutes of hauling that monster around.

My new place I just moved into sits on .25 acres of land(I got a corner lot), so it's not very big. I think I might go electric. For the amount of times I am going to use it, I don't think it is worth the hassle of getting a gas one...

Is that the last house you're going to own? Most people move every five years. Quality equipment will last through several houses. If you're smart, you'll landscape in such a way that you don't need to trim. I've lived here for over 20 years, and NEVER had to trim. I use 'Round Up' total vegetation killer in places most people would use a trimmer. I learned my lesson on the tools I have bought, like mowers, blowers, and snow throwers. It pays to buy the best!
