I recently had the first oil change done on my 08 Jetta Wolfsburg at 5000 miles (synthetic). I keep track of my mileage for kicks with fuelfrog.com. I used to get about 22 mpg in mostly city driving and the latest three tanks have been 23.9, 23.8, and 24.4. Just thought I'd share.

Probably because you're breaking the motor in?

24mpg isn't bad for city driving, though I would've expected little better for a car that small. My a6 gets about 18 in city :cry;

Indeed, I get about 23-24 with 90% city driving with my GTI (same engine), I really could get more out of it if I wanted to but its oh so fun to hear the turbo spin 🙂

If you have stock intake then you can barely hear it.

22 mpg is awful for a small sedan, i'm guessing 4cyl, 24 is bad too

I only get ~19.5mpg in my '90 accord.

fueleconomy.gov says my car should get 19mpg

Wolfsburg = 2.0 turbo engine right? I have the same engine and avg ~18MPG in my Jetta. The reason mines is so low though, is my commute is all stop and go traffic, and I never get to take it above 35MPH... 🙁

I get great mileage on the highway though. 🙂 I fill my tank maybe once every 6 weeks because of my short commute to/from work.

your car isn't even getting warmed up doing that little driving.

Yeah, I know. I've actually been extremely worried about it. I usually warm the car up for no less than 5 minutes before I drive it, but it still doesn't help the fact that the transmission still hasn't moved during the warm-up. 🙁

I do take the car out for longish trips during the weekends at least.
