which did u get?

somethin like this should work for you

http://www.amazon.com/No-Spill-1405-...4051679&sr=1-3
Thank you!!!

Besides using an old Rubbermaid gas can, I bought the No-Spill gas can. It has a nasty child-proof device that made it near impossible to open, you have to depress this damn inflexible tab while turning to remove the spout to fill the can. A little sawing with a serrated knife removed the plastic knob on the can that catches the child-proof lock on the nozzle.

Now it is an awesome gas can. If you need a new one, I recommend the no-spill and a knife.

I had this problem with a gas can recently. The spout shows a locked and and unlocked symbol with a gray part that turns around the spout. The problem is that it won't turn all the way to the unlocked position and, seemingly thus, it won't dispense the contents. The can has no instructions and you will ruin your hands trying to force the alignment marks to the "unlocked" position.

I gave up because I didn't have the time to figure it out, but eventually we figured it out: You are supposed to pull the gray ring back to allow it to flow. It does not have to be turned all the way to the lock position for you to be able to pull it back. Obviously, the first thing you would assume based on the arrows and diagram is that the lock/unlock setting is what is preventing flow if you didn't know that it also pulls back (no other arrows). They really could have done some usability testing with these things.

Blitz, maker of most of the plastic gas cans in the US, has actually gone into bankruptcy from lawsuits. IIRC, they want Blitz to install flame arrestors to protect users...

The new spouts are dangerous, imo, but they weren't Blitz's idea.

same here, now. I picked up a few 5 gal gas cans for 3 or 4 bucks a piece this summer. a few storms in the last couple years made me do this, gotta stock up for the generator when there's a storm a-comin'.

How to fix your new style gas cans:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lcnwdIYEfI

This guy explains how to revert your new pain in the ass cans into the old style usable cans. Total cost is about $2.

I have a couple 1 gal containers just like those. Not a PITA at all. It keeps little hands from pouring gas all over the ground (little hands are teh kiddo's, who just want to help daddy while I'm off doing something around the house.

I used a hacksaw to cut the safety valve off.
You can cut down a little and still have some nozzle.
