I walked into an office depot that was in a small city last night and I asked them if they had any gps left, and the person working there said that they had one left of the Garmin GPS III plus for around $300, I told her I would take it and when she rang it up it rang up for $59.88, her mouth was wide open in shock and said I wish there were more so I could get one. I also used the 15 of 50 coupon and got an even better deal on this. anyway I decided to have her check around other stores and she said that this is the last one in the Southeastern US.

We bought probably the last one in the Los Angeles area (West Covina) on Friday.
But contrary to joeyhamlin the price here still rang up as $99.88 .
And the manager was an a$$hole, allthough the unit was in it's bare being and missing the cable/box, he wouldn't go down with the price.

unclebud your'e welcome.

For those of you that had these backordered, you might want to check the status. Mine just changed form Backordered to "Waiting Backordered Release". Looks like they may come through after all!!

Mine still shows "Waiting Backordered Items". It has always shown this status. Let us know if you have any luck.

if there's any garmins emap deluxe in your area you may want to go back...they've been marked down to $19.88. the clerk freaked out when i returned it and it kept scanning and skuing as $19.88 instead of $99.88---i know he bought it after i left--cause when i said i'd keep it for that price, he was stuttering "n-n-n-noooo..."
does anybody know anything about an earthmate gps?

My brother bought my Dad one of the Earthmates for X-mas (we're a tech family), and he really likes it. The maps and fixes are accurate, and the damn thing is really useful for directions and such. It has speech to guide you during your route, that you can set and what not, and the whole nine yards of data including elevation, speed, eta to next change in route, etc. My dad is pretty close to getting microsoft voice recognition to work with it as well, so he can just tell his lap top what to do without having to lift his hand off the wheel. Pretty smooth if you ask me.

Some bastard bought out all the GPS systems in Southern Cali! Man, why do people have to be so greedy? Leave some for the rest of us!

I ended up consoling myself by going to CompUSA and buying 2 of the $4.88 56K modems.

tchinhe asked: What is the NMEA?

National Marine Electronics Assoc.

The NMEA standard GPS connection spits out the lat/lon and other data to any other devices that might want to know, such as an autopilot.(or street map?)

http://www.vancouver-webpages.com/pub/peter/ has lots of related GPS info.

Not hotdeal stuff, but you asked.

Holy sh*t, I have never heard of a store giving credit because they discontinued an item. OD must be hell bent to lose money.

Anyone seen other gps systems on clearance besides Garmin ? Someone mentioned Rand McNally, but it is still regular price at my local store. Same with EarthMate.

After you received your store credit, what happened to your online order. Does it now show canceled? Mine still shows "waiting backordered items"... but I haven't checked my mail in the last couple of days.

Got my second set of 2 $50 gift certificates - waiting for the third set since I had 3 orders in.

It doesn't look like I can use these online. They look like the type of gift certificate you would buy to give to someone as a gift.

On the back it says NO EXPIRATION.
