Just got one of each from my local OD - both were the last ones in stock. Used a $15 off coupon that they snail-mailed me last week - sweet. Also used that $10 online coupon - in fact I forgot to take the $10 one, but the sales guy had it taped on his counter for everyone to see and use.

I got through on the phone to call in my order since their web page went completely SLOW. The CSR said "Our systems go down every Friday starting at 12AM EST. It'll be back up by 9AM tomorrow."

Damn! I was in the checkout process for an Etrex!!!!
Now the price is high again!

I don't know what OD is doing. They were out of stock online (did not check other zips) so I bought one at a local store. They had it tagged on the shelf for 99, so it has been at that price for at least a day cause someone had to print up new price stickers for them. So how can they suddenly jack up the price as if it was some pricing error ?

Are they trying to take the title of 'is suck' from Staples ?

I think it really is because their computers are down.

In a brilliant moment, I thought to call up the local OD B&M to see what time they close. 10PM!!!! It was only 9:43PM but in that time I was able to hit 2 stores. The first one didn't have anything AND they couldn't even check their own computers to see if they had any since they do in fact go down Fridays.

9:53, I haul out of there, hit the freeway, make it to the Oxnard CA OD at 9:59, step in and say "GOT ANY GPS'S?"

One of the guys says, "yeah, one yellow one, that's it".

SOLD!! I got their last unopened Garmin GPS of any kind (other than the beat up displays missing parts)

At both stores there were printed labels saying "Discontinued, $99 on the GPS III, $69.99 on the ETREK and I think $99.99 on this other model. So it has been this price for enough time for them to print out labels and retag them.

I'll bet tomorrow when their computers are up the prices will again be discounted but everything will be out of stock.

Missed the last one at local OD by 2 minutes, spent the next hour there while the manager called every store in Western Washington, could only locate two GPS III Plus, 80 miles away. I think the 160 mile round trip I made tonight was worth it. woo doggie!

Walked into OD today and looked around saw the other two GPS units and wasn't really inpressed. I saw the GTS III, thought &quot;now what an ugly sucker&quot; (this was a dummy unit). I thought what the hell see if it was on clearance since the other two were. It was but none in stock. Some GUY came in a few days ago and bought up FIFTY of them (whole area). UHGH! HE couldn't even LEAVE me ONE! Damn ***! Sorry had to vent, now I'm off to other ODs to see if the guy missed... just even one.

Garmin GPS III Has been DISCONTINUED. And are replaced by Garmin GPS III PLUS! Which enable you to d/l their MapSource data for a detailed map. But for a pricedrop to $99 is not bad thou (for resell it to most 3B4y sucker).

I'd rather go with the PLUS one as a personal asset since it's Upgradeable !.
