Garbled screen on boot up

Put together a new system (a8ndeluxe/fx53/6800gt nvidia) and I
can't get it to work properly. I keep getting (randomly) a garbled
up screen. A bunch of lines, different colors. Sometimes the bios
works, then messes up, other times it goes to detect my devices,
but fails to recognize my master hdd. Both of my HDDs are maxtor.
I heard there was a problem with diamondmaxs.. ? Also, when
the screen turns on garbled, half the time it just freezes, and the
other it changes colors (the lines) and beeps 6 times. Checked
the manual, but the (accidentally) left out the POST beep table.

I would appreciate any help.

Have you tried re-seating your video card?
Do you have all of the extra power cables connected?
What brand / model PSU are you using?
