I have a crapload of work in front of me....landscraping....building up the garage....etc.
 
Yes those can last a long time but with any type of coating/painting, the base coat is the most important part of it. Priming should take you longer than actually putting it down.

The most important thing is the prep.

Secondary to that is the quality of the coating.
 
We epoxied ours when we moved in. Three years later the concrete is showing through where the car is regularly parked. I don't know if it has anything to do with all the salt and water the car brings in.
 
Yep you need to really clean the floor.

But even if you do it all right it will last maybe 5 years give or take.

Another option is to stain it. Can still see the concrete but it will be colored and I think it holds up better but not sure.
 
I actually have a similar problem.

We have 2 motorcycles and want to put them up on dolly's to stash into the back of the garage so I could still park my car inside (single garage/single lane driveway ftl). The issue is that our garage floor is uneven with tiny craters etc. We want to put down an epoxy coating and even it out.

What do we need to consider before doing this? Will it work?
 
The Epoxy is a good, inexpesive, easy, do-it-yourself project. No it's not going to last forever and yes there are many more expensive/longer lasting options but for the price, they are great. I'm not a fan of the stain. Just looks tacky to me.

VCT is another easy option but yet again prep is important. Personally I'd rather do the VCT than the rolldown epoxy.

Thanks for the insight. I def need to do the epoxy soon if I plan on moving those bikes around on rollers 🙂

My garage is a mess. Me personally I don't like the stain like I said so. I like an actual coating or tiles on top of it.
 
Another option is a floor tile like RaceDeck. Since this is your first home, you may want to consider how long before you will be thinking about upgrading. I was in my first home for about 3 years. A garage floor tile can be taken with you if you move - preserving your investment. Just a thought.

The stuff you want is like a thick epoxy/rubber like what you see in a chem lab. The spray on stuff that is like paint will chip off within a week.
 
We bought a non-new house in 2005. I cleaned the garage floor with TSP and power washer, then used the stuff from Lowe's, with the grippy, sandy additive.

It's great. Holding up great, tough as nails. Just remember to constantly stir it or the sand sinks to the bottom. But it's doing great on a floor that wasn't new....so it should do well on a new floor, too.
