It's remodel time. We are going to sheet rock. insulate and install cabinets in the garage. Our first step is to finish the concrete floor. We can go with a snap together plastic tile like this or this or we can go with the epoxy finish that looks like this. Looking for input from people who have had one or the other done. Thanks..

Thanks Shawn, are you going by the pictures in the links, or have you seen the finished products. I have never seen a plastic tile floor in a garage before. It is hard to envision what the plastic tile wood look like.

I used to install the plastic tiles... it's alright, but more expensive than it's worth IMO. If you do it yourself, the epoxy stuff is waaaaaaaay cheaper. Not sure how good the do it yourself kits are though.

I think the plastic tile looks nicer.

We epoxied our floor with two kits of the rustoleum product. Good prep is a must.

I just did a clients garage floor in tiles he got fromm Costco for 2.00 a foot(slate grey diamond plate pattern) .I charged him 350.00(app. 450 sq. ft.) for labor which included painting some of the exposed foundation concrete black to blend with the floor.Installation was fairly easy. I used a table saw to cut the tiles where necessary. They are more comfortable to walk on than the concrete. Tiles are going to cost a lot more than painting. So I think the cost differential between the 2 methods is a big factor. As for which would last longer from a wear standpoint...i think the tiles would as long as they don't break, but this is pure speculation as this is the first experience i have had with tiles. I have painted a garage floor in epoxy before and it will wear and need repainting. Tiles look better.Very uniform look and the diamond pattern looks good.

P.s.: Why finish the floor first? That should be the last thing you do

Exactly. We did everything else first, and the next step is to build cabinets which will sit on the floor. I had no idea about size and placement, so I painted the whole thing just in case;)
