So 2 years ago i was doing some yard work so i plugged my electric chainsaw into the garage socket. It worked fine for 20 minutes or so then it stopped working.

Ever since then that plug has been dead. The other socket in the garage works, but the one i used for the garage opener is dead.

Both sockets are GFCI and none are tripped. One is just 100% dead.
Already checked the breaker many times.

Is possible for something that pulls a lot of power to kill a entire GFCI socket? Should i buy a new GFCI outlet and install it?

Thanks

Only one GFCI outlet per circuit. It could be the outlet is fed out of another GFCI outlet somewhere else that you haven't checked.

Yes, you could have melted and opened the circuit inside the outlet.

A non contact voltage detector comes in pretty handy when looking for where the circuit is open.

I shorted out a trouble light connected to a plug outlet in my garage. The outlet was then dead. I checked the breaker box, but all the breakers were in the ON position. I started checking ALL the outlets in the garage and found 2 other outlets dead too. One of those was a GFI. I pushed the button on the GFI and then had power to all the other outlets. These GFI's occasionally go bad, and you might have a bad GFI. Remember to replace it with a GFI and not a normal outlet. You need the protection of a GFI.

Replaced the GFCi and no dice. It didn't strike me till now, but the power outlets are on light switches in the garage. If you turn the light switch off then the garage door opener turns off.

There are 2 switches
1 for the a garage light

2nd for the actual garage door opener.

The one for the light works, but the one for the opener doesn't work. So now im thinking the switch is fried. Going to change that now.

The left Pole goes to the garage door opener. The Right metal pole goes to the other outlet which works. Both are on the same main power lines that goes underground it seems.

New GFCI installed. Notice the light works which is on the blue switch showed in the pic above:
