I've been looking for a replacement garage door lift cables. I tried searching online on Ace Hardware, Home Depot, and Lowes. But they do not seem to have it.

Does anyone know if any of those stores actually have lift cables? Where else would I be able to find these cables locally (e.g. boat store, Walmart, etc.)?

HomeDepot or Lowes should have them...lots of items they carry are not on their website...

At least two of those places you checked have it in store, just not available online. Either call, or get off your butt and go to the store.

I got mine from Lowes for about seven bucks. We have a manual lift garage door -- one day, the garbage can within the garage was too close to the garage door. I came home and tried to lift the garage door from he outside. As I lifted the garage door up, the trash can caught the wire and broke it.

The maker of the garage door wanted $80 for parts and $100 for labor to fix it. All I ended up having to do was have the guy at Lowes cut me a piece of cable, then buy two ferite sp? ends to go on the end of the cable. Took me about 5 minutes to fix.

Yeah, most hardware stores will have cable they can cut to the length you want, and end piece bits. It's easy.

Do a search for a local garage door installer. That's what I did when I needed a brace.

My system uses extension springs not the torsion ones. I hear the extension ones can be done by DIYers. I'll have to go to Lowes or HD tomorrow and check it out. I got a couple of coupons in the mail.

I've replaced both types of springs, one just requires simple metal rods.
