Looking for a similar program to Garage Band, but for a windows-based machine instead. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions. It's for my brother in-law.

Looks like it's designed for a serious workstation, but I'm thinking more along the lines of a home desktop machine.

You can't buy Garageband separately. Garageband comes bundled in iLife. iLife costs 79 bucks, but comes with Garageband, iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie, iTunes. AVS Audio Editor doesn't have bundled software like iLife, which probably explains why it's half the price.

Actually they do come bundled. That company has 2 movie programs and 2 audio programs, which you can get bundled for still cheaper than iLife.

The other cost is that he can get a full PC system for the same price as a mini-mac which doesn't even include a monitor, keyboard, or mouse. The PC system is faster too. The cheapest way to go for him is PC, which is why I was looking for an alternative.
