Gapless playback soothes my ears

I figured I'd relax this Sunday and listen to some chillout Beatles remakes. Playing the tracks in VLC was quite annoying because the player wasn't able to process the continuous flow of music from one track to another. And then I discovered foobar2000. It's so much better to listen to music that plays continuously. It doesn't jolt you out of your relaxation.

? Let me take you away... strawberry fields forever ?

I used to use WinAmp for music for 10 years, just switched to foobar 2 weeks ago (tried it in past, didn't like it, but I do now).
VLC is awesome for the number of containers and codecs it can handle, but I only use it for video.

I love gapless CDs where the music transitions smoothly from track to track.

Use itunes instead, it does gapless as of the last version which came out about 6-12 months ago as I recall. Of course now that Apple innovated the technology all the other players are copying it and offering gapless playback as well

uhh, itunes was late to the party. i could have sworn winamp and foobar had gapless capabilities before.

I love Mediamonkey. It sort of blends the song that's ending into the beginning of the next song. I'm not sure if that's gapless playback, but it sounds great.

No that wasn't sarcasm. Just admit you're an Apple fanboy and you were wrong. 😀

Looks like Winamp added gapless MP3 playback in version 5.2 (released in early 2006).

Read my post history for confirmation. I can't blame you though, I did a pretty good Macboy imitation if I do say so myself 🙂

iTunes has had gapless playback (or cross-fading) since 2001.

WinAmp, as horrible as it is, has had it before that.

iTunes is miserable fail any way you look at it. Fuck iTunes. I will never again have that shit on anything I own.

No I've had gapless for a far time longer than that with iTunes. Then again, I don't know how good they are with the windows version.

What sucks is how many portable audio players don't have it. I've only seen the ipod and zune do it out of the box.

foobar2000 is the best, most customizable, and most expandable music player ever.

VLC for video because it has support for every format and codec evar.
