Guys that giggle always sound a little strange to me. Not everything in china is made by little kids for a penny an hour. It takes a real asshole to make fun of someone for having morals. He never flamed anyone. He just informed. I'm glad you think it's funny to exploit people. You're obviously a much more intelligent person. These "harsh realities" exist because of people like you. No seriously, I guess my tone could have been nicer. When I see the protest X because X is bad and it is happening 10,000 miles away, I prefer to think locally. I didn't think I explained anything away, I'm not that smart. I juts pointed out that we can do a lot of meaningful things that really change the world by recognizing the little things in our lives that hurt other people. Take the boxers, say GAP is evil and GAP uses thread made from hair pulled out of yaks with no anesthetic. A bad thing. Protesting GAP is a good step, but you're using a lot of effort for little outcome. What is the likelihood that your protest will change things? Very good. What is the likelihood that it will change the sysem? Very poor. But go ahead, boycott the gap and I wish you the best.
It has been my experience that most of the X boycotters in this country are raving hypocrites - George Carlin referred to them as the people who think a few bike paths (in their neighborhoods) will solve the world's problems. They solve micro-problems, getting the dolphins out of tuna nets, but fail in the larger scheme of things. Why? This is where my intelligence doesn't need to come into play - they choose not to. This choice annoys me. GO figure. They have a comfort level of protest, usually involving a nuclear plant here or there, global warming, red meat or aberrant sunspots, but once that comfort level reaches a certain point, they hang up their hats and go home. Its too hard. This is why I have a pet peeve agst the hypocritical protester. I guess I demand, albeit unfairly, that these passionate undergraduate college mindset protesters be consistent. Now of course I don't hold myself to that standard, that would be too hard.
Finally, I don't think calling someone "good natured but naive" is making fun of them. It might be elitist and arrogant, but not mockery. I simply know better than they do.

I guess we're all taking everything out of context. I'm not boycotting the GAP. I'm wearing GAP jeans right now. My post was mainly to say "hey, don't be a jerk to a guy that's trying to help people" and "it's not a hopeless cause we necessarily should just accept." That's all. I'm somewhere in the middle of creating bike paths and enslaving devloping countries. I personally would rather see the former than the latter but that's just me. In my opinion it's more worthwhile to sign petitions and write letters than boycott a company that large. It just doesn't seem reasonable to get that many people to join in. Like you said, most people will get the clothes even if they don't agree with the working conditions. When they agree with what is going on I begin to have issues. With that said, I'm officially retiring from this thread. Feel free to PM me if you would like to say anything more so we don't have to take up more of this thread. Again, sorry for being irrate.
