Gang rape a bride? All 10 of you shall die...

Death sentence for raping someone? I'm no rapist fanboy but the punishment doesn't fit the crime. The death sentence should be awarded for only the most serious crime possible, killing another human being.

Also, a sentence like this sends a bad message for future rapists. Now they can kill their victim, removing a witness in the process, with no fear of any extra punishment. Because once you decide to kill someone, you really can't do anything much worse to them.

EDIT: The number of internet thugs in this thread disturbs me.

Only a fucking moron can find a way to morph justice into enablement.

I think capital punishment is just in any case where the act is so cruel and perverse as in this case and there is an established pattern of such behavior. I don't know the gang's background, but it's very likely they are repeat offenders.

EDIT: And only if the case is very clear, with enough solid evidence. Again, I don't know if that's true for this case.

A think a few torture victims would disagree with you. If you think death is the worst thing a human can experience, I'm sorry but you're simply naive.

And rapists can kill their victims anyway, and from what I know usually do. Letting the victim live willingly is uncommon at best.

In any case, I don't think you can compare rape and murder. There's a reason they're separate charges under US law. Both are extremely serious, but it's still Apples and Oranges.

The presiding judge is reported to have said that the harsh sentence was needed in order to purge society of the defendants' evil.

Finally read the article. No arguments here.

I think people mistake what "punishment must fit the crime" means. It doesn't mean that the literal same act that a person committed must be used against him or her. It means that the seriousness or level of the punishment must be equal to the severity of the crime. Raping someone shows an absolute disregard for the life of an individual. These men did it for hours, without a care for the woman's will or her life (how many rape victims die? many). Death is a just punishment for the crime. I'm not advocating it out of bloodlust or for the name of vengeance, but with sad, but firm, acknowledgment of the righteousness of it. Give them a swift and painless death, which is still more than they deserve.
