It's good to put on the news so that we know to hold our military leaders accountable for enabling those thugs. Shall we just shoot the messenger or perhaps it would it be better to do something to actually solve the problem?

Hopefully the structure of the military is able to turn some of them.. maybe give them pride and turn them away from gangs. The guy in the video was just sick.

the armed services have to weigh the need for bodies vs. the quality of the recruits they're looking for. until gang affiliations actually and directly start affecting unit cohesion and fighting ability, what incentive does the services have to get involved with it?

also, IIRC, the services will not recruit persons who have criminal histories, will not tolerate tatoos depending on message and location of such and will not recruit people who admit to having known criminal, harmful political and foreign enemy afilliations. waivers are sometimes possible. (don vito, pls correct if in error) thanx.

it just very well may be that the services have found that gang members make good front-line troops. i'd rather have them there than in the intelligence services where they can acquire contacts and friendships that can seriously affect the ability of how our civilain law enforcement agencies monitor and/or control gang activities.

i also have to assume that some gang members who have joined the military have found it a rewarding career experience and have forsaken their past lives as gangbangers. i'm also sure that many parents of children who have gang afilliations pressure these kids into joining the services to try to get them to change their lives for the better.

it seems to me that the services have taken the position that the troops who have gang affiliations can be tolerated so long as they do their jobs and follow orders as any good service member would and what former service members do after they return to civilian life is none of the services concern.

Send him to the front lines.

Yep, let him and his kind represent your country when dealing with other people....

Obviously a person like this wants to kill...let him.

problem is we are sending these kind to the front lines. wich is part of the reason you havieng things happen like killing and rapes.

The military has always drawn from inner city neighborhoods, which is an issue onto itself. I can't tell you the number of soldiers in my unit who came from troubled pasts, including gang activity. Yet for many of these kids, the military serves as an escape from inner city life...access to education, and a firm foundation on which to start over.

The real problem here is not that gang members are joining the military, but rather the prevelance of gang activity in many regions of the country.

Focus on the origin of the problem, not its unfortunate results, as shown in this video.
