im getting some 5.1 klipsch next week ($330 😉 ) and i have a SB Live Plat 5.1. when im listening to MP3's i only want 2 channels plus the sub because thats what sounds best but when im gaming i want to be able to take advantage of all 5 channels. will i be able to do that with this sound card. i really dont want to get rid of it becasue it has the front plate which i use for my minidisc and controlling my mp3's with the remote. thanks

i don't think you have to worry, if you play songs in winamp it should just separate the track into right and left channels, and even for gaming you would have to specify ingame whether to use 5.1 (very few games natively support 5.1 channels btw). i think dvds are the only computer product that can support 5.1 out of the box via the software decoder. however, i am open to corrections if any of this is wrong.

Where did you get those for $330 by the way? I know bestbuy employees can get them for like 300, but... divulge the info!
