Gaming with Conroe

I've seen tons of charts with low resolution FPS results for Conroe. I understand this accentuates the differences between CPUs (Conroe has made it's point). But I've not seen any 1600x1200 (or higher) with high AA/AF charts. I'd like to know what "real-world" differences there will be. Who games at 640x480 or 800x600 anymore?

It is likely the spread will not be as large since the GPU may become the limiting factor....This is why we wait for thorough testing...I expect the conroe will still be the top performer, but whether the difference is large enough to warrant AMD users to switch...I dont know....

Coz at 1600X1200 resolution its all GPU bottlenecked, at 1280X1024 below its more towards CPU bottlenecked. they have really low resolution coz theyre CPU bottlenecked.

He already said he understood that....He would just like to see how many fps he can expect to pull in actual play....This is usually done in video card reviews but some of the bette review sites will run a low rez and a high rez...We will have to wait...

Supposedly (according to the Inq, I know lol) NDA for Conroe reviewers will be lifted July 14th instead of July 23rd or so. So sometime in the next few weeks we should see all out reviews on C2D with the requested high res gaming tests of the OP.

It will be interesting to see when new gen vid cards are released and moves that GPU bottleneck "higher". Wonder if Conroe will show it's strength then when it comes to gaming and the GPU being the bottleneck.

Conroe has done very well in FEAR and Oblivion benchmarks run at 1600x1200.

The others have said it pretty well.

When the graphics card isn't the bottleneck, it tests to see where the CPU bottleneck would be.

Think of Oblivion, where it's got tons of AI in it, obviously that's CPU-driven, so when you have a faster CPU (and the graphics card isn't slowing down framerates from a pretty lack of jagged edges), the performance will be increased.

Conroe will be nice, though it won't show a tremendous increase in framerates with games like Oblivion or FEAR in high resolutions... It may show a little bit, but if the graphics card is the bottleneck (such as if you're running on an X1600/7600GT or lower), then until your graphics card doesn't hold your system down, the CPU won't make much of a difference.

and thats why i think that newer games will profit more from a faster cpu than slightly older games like source, bf2 etc.
