Gaming video problem...

Hey everyone,
First of all, I wanted to tell everybody I'm glad to be part of this forum. Please help me figure out why me graphics are whack. OK, lemme start at the beginning, my graphics were fine until I was playing the Splinter Cell demo, then all of a sudden the screen goes black and my computer restarts. I initially thought the game only crashed... until I tried to play it again. When it loaded it looked like I was looking at a broken mirror -- see my screenshots (of the Sims 2).

Well anyway, I tried reinstalling directx 9.0c and it still happens to all my games. Another thing I noticed is that i went into directx diagnosis (dxdiag.exe) and tested Direct3d and it didnt work right, the box with the directx logo didn't look like a box at all. Also, I've reinstalled the video card drivers.

This is a pain and the tech. service people at eVGA always say RMA (last time they told me this, I fixed the problem myself, it wasn't my card at all) so I'm doubtful when they say RMA

61.77 or 66.81, the 66.81 are slightly better but may not be as stable. also check your temp settings. what Power Supply brand and wattage are you using?

your one of the first with a 6600GT. I think it is a driver issue too. remove all the old ones using drivercleaner and reinstall the latest. if it doesn;t work, clear drivers again and try the suggested versions.

Its odd that it just started being funny. Try downloading a program called "driver cleaner" and running that to eliminate the drivers installed on your system. Follow the instructions that come with the program to use it. Then install the latest drivers from the nv site.

I've tried drivecleaner and installing the 66.81 drivers. The problem is still there
See, it worked for the first week I've built my computer, and I don't know how/why it suddenly began messin up. My power supply is 350W and came with my case (raidmax). Is there a way to reinstall directx? I'm thinking about installing windows on my blank hard drive and see if the problem exists because of the card itself.

You can reinstalll direct x by clicking on the setup file and overwrite the files.

I've already tried reinstalling it by running setup again. I'm starting to think its my video card itself.

I'm guessing you have a Dell Dimension 8400 right? Have you tried doing a format and a clean install of Windows XP? Probably the best thing to do since Dell preinstalls a lot of junk on the HD. Also you could try and check if the card is seated snugly it its PCIe slot. If those two don't help the problem, it's probably best to RMA the card.

No, I built my own computer from scratch.

Regarding reinstalling windows, can I install it on my unused hard drive (empty) and continue to run programs installed on the other hard driver?

I don't want to ruin the fun, but I think it's not a software issue; more like overheating. Try using your card in another PC and see if it gives that problem too. If so, your card is borked, so RMA it. If not, then I'm wrong and you can be relieved and you can try something else. In that case, I'd suggest checking your PSU.
