Gaming to cost $60 a pop now? Sure looks that way....

Sorry.. this topic is interesting and all, but TheBoss being totally owned by the mod ( with a witty statement to boot ) made it all the more worthwhile to read 🙂

Kudos to the Mods 🙂

Poof!

Ditto! BF games are the best bang for the buck, period. Abundance of mods keeps it interesting and I never get bored with it. I don't remember last time buying a game and still wanting to play it almost two years later.

If dumbasses would stop paying that much, they would be cheaper.

If the dumbasses who pirate the game would buy it, prices would be cheaper.
Most of those who pirate it probably would never have bought it in the first place.

That's why I wait a couple of weeks, then hit up the FS/FT forum to grab some half priced just recently released games.

that's not necessarily true. that's the company line, but they are just convenient scapegoats. for example, MMORPGs still cost 49.99. there's not really any piracy on those, yet the price is the same as most games.

ditto

Remember that games cost a ton more to make then they used to...

and also less people played video games back then
Not by much, at least in the American market. Keep in mind that Super Mario Bros. 3 is still one of the best selling games of all times(I think it's still #1 when it comes to being first to 1mil units sold), so the gaming market hasn't grown by huge amounts. Crazy's point is also some of the reason we've seen such a massive contraction between how many devs/publishers were in the NES days, and now. It used to be any tool could make a game, and as long as it was certified and not utter crap, it would sell well enough to pay for itself, since it didn't need to sell very much in the first place. These days even good games aren't enough, if you're not indie, you basically have to break the NPD top 10 chart for at least a week to hope to turn a profit.

PS Hammer, MMORPGs are an interesting beast. Development is so different, I'm not sure how to best compare them to other games

There are very few games that I buy full price, I usually just wait a few months and usually the price drops by 10-20% (at least for consoles). Then there's always the used outlets for games, I've probably bought about 200 used games in the last 3 years from those kind of places. It's hard to pass up a good game when its only 5 or 10 bucks. I would say out of every year there may be 2-4 games I would pay full price for, this year it's gonna be the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (in fact I'm taking my vacation when that game comes out). Next year hopefully if the new Elder Scrolls comes out I'll glady pay full price for that one as well.

Funny, but since when is the mere mention of piracy bannable?

😕

There's a thread per month asking if your copy of Windows is legit....

That's what I was wondering. It's not like he gave specific instructions on where to get pirated stuff, he just made an offhand comment.

The number of locked/deleted threads and banned users around here is really increasing.

Maybe it's cause it takes years now to come up with a game?

Like, how hard would it be to program pong? Or pacman? HL2?

This is really a false threat by the gaming industry. I could have picked up Doom 3 for less than $40 at Fry's at launch; the average price of a console game in my collection is under $15, and I have a lot of new titles.

Some of you guys need to start browsing CheapAssGamer more often.

Yea, I know it sucks. But, if you think about it (like the linked article says). We've been gaming on $50 for about 20 years now. I guess we kinda saw it coming with D3 costing $55 and now HL2 as well.

Yea, inflation is just a fact of life I guess.

Suprnova here I come. I can't endorse paying 65 dollars for a game for the same reason I can't pay 15-20 dollars for music.

AnyMal if you like BF that much you're alright in my book! 😀 You and DT4K are my fellow BF addicts but he's trying to cutback. LOL.

Console games do depreciate in price, but PC games don't depreciate as much. Generally with PC games, the week it comes out is probably the best price you'll find it for a while. More than 6 months for most games. If the game sucks, then maybe you can get it for a low price within a year.

Also, with PC games, you have the opposite trend from what you have in console games. When a console game is being repackaged after a while, it usually is a lot cheaper. When a PC game is repackaged, it usually is some treasure chest edition or game of the year (according to some guy in his basement) editions that cost a lot.

I don't mind paying $70 or more for a game if it's great. To me it's inconsequential how much games cost, since I like so few of them. If a game is great, it's worth $70 just as much as it is worth $50. If it sucks, then only if it were $10 would i not feel too bad. If it were a few years old, though, then $10 seems like a lot to pay for a crap game.

the kicker is that we pay that much for buggy games, then they 'fix' them with patches after the fact....

after allt he delays they should be paying us to play their damn games...

at this rate we will need to take out aloan to buy duke nukem forver

Ditto...not to bright on his part 😉

Well anyway I won't be paying that much because I get 10% off at ebgames being a gamespot complete member.

N64 games were $60. Can't tell you how many I bought at that price. Probably less than 5, just for the really hot games though. Honestly, I just buy all XBox games now and usually, Fry's has the newest ones for about $35 for the first week.

thats what i do for the most part. also saves me a ton on computer hardware. hell i still have 5 year old games i'm trying to get around to playing.

This is a good thing. I hope all games, including next-gen PS3 and XB2 console games, are $75-$100 in the near future.
