Hi Everyone,

My current rig (see below), sports a Nehalem Core i7-860. With my NVidia 680 GTX, I can play any game I want on my 30-inch monitor with almost all the video options on their highest settings.

But I would like to upgrade to an IB proc, and was looking at the 3570k. I like to do moderate overclocking, so I was planning on getting to 4.0GHz with a Cooler Master 212+ with the 3570k.

Should I wait till Haswell comes out (patience is not a virtue for me :)), and get a good deal on the 3570k, or buy the 3570 (minus the k) now, which just dropped under $200?

If I did that, would I still be able to achieve 4.0GHz with the 3570? Or, do I need the 3570k to get that kind of overclock?

Thanks as always, fellow AnandHeads!

A faster CPU isn't going to help you on 2560x1600. I would wait until Haswell for a CPU upgrade and add another GPU or upgrade to GTX 700 / HD 8000.

Do yourself a favor, just spend the extra couple of bucks and get the 'K' version. Much easier to overclock.

Ok, sounds like I should wait no matter what. I like having just the one GPU card, so I will stick with that until I can't play the games I like the way I want.

But for now, I will hold off on the CPU. I did just get a great deal on 16GB of fast ram (G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB), so that will help too.

Haswell at first in 2013 1 and 2 half are chips for mobile laptops..Then budget chips until end of 2013. You really want a powerful CPU then wait for Ivy Bridge E ,,,, 6 to 12 cores ,,,, yup imagine having 24 logical processors..... working for you at blistering single threaded speed.
