My primary use is gaming. with work being done every so often. I have a $2000 dollar budget could squeeze out more if the money is worth it. I really want this computer to have alot of longevity if possible. Here are my specs, please critique and let me know your thoughts.

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD7500AAKS 750GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $199.99 each x 2
EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP $529.99
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model BL2KIT12864AA804 - Retail $109.99 each x 2
EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $224.99
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80562Q6600 - Retail $277.99

I've read good reviews on this motherboard, but would like to see your other suggestions. The main goals I want to accomplish with this computer is longevity, and great gaming. The 2 parts im unsure of at this moment are case, and psu. All suggestions are welcome! If there is something you would change let me know. Also if i could get some suggestions on good CPU fans I would appreciate it

Thanks for your help

Dump that 680i motherboard and get a P-35 board.

RAM seems VERY expensive....You can get 2gigs for less than the cost of 1 of your sticks

nick1985 he is getting 4gigs (2*2*1gig kits).

verbs, if you aren't going sli then go with p35 its better for overclocking the quad anyway, or you could wait 1 week or so for x38 boards (which wont officially support sli but might have hacked drivers).

Yeah, if you're not going sli, ditch the 680i and get a P35 board. Also, are you gaming at really HIGH resolutions? If not, get the 640mb version, or even 320mb. Since you have the money doesn't mean just blow it like that. You could RAID 0 these drives and get a 3rd smaller for your OS and apps, just a suggestion.

Oh ya, PSU?

I'd say save some money on the graphics card, downgrade to the 8800GTS (saving at least $150 for the 640mb or $240 for the 320mb) and putting that money towards another graphics card in the future.

I was planning at Getting the next GPU fairly soon. But my current max RES is only 1680x1050. If I were to ditch that mobo for a P35 what should I get. Also what PSU fits best? I really want it to be modular. Any recomendations on keeping the q6600 cool?

Thanks Verbs

Definitely keep the GTX IMO unless, like you said, you plan on upgrading in the near future (Q1 2008). If that's the case, get a 8800GTS 320MB. It'll do just fine. Some popular P35 motherboards are as follows: Abit IP35 Pro, Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P, Asus P5K Deluxe WIFI/AP, etc. If you want a high quality modular power supply you'll probably like the Corsair 620HX. If you can live without modularity, I'd recommend you go with a PC Power & Cooling 750 Quad. If you plan on going with GTX SLI, the 750 will definitely suffice, however, I'm not sure about the 620HX. It could run for sure, but who knows for how long. If you want an aftermarket cooler for your Q6600 I'd recommend a Scythe Ninja or a Tuniq Tower 120. If you have any other questions let us know.
