Gaming Performance (mainly Left4Dead)

Right now I am running Left4Dead at 1920x1200 on mid to high settings and when I play the Survival Mode I get pretty major slowdowns when the there are a lot of zombies.

My specs are:

Core2Duo E6550
4GB DDR2
512MB Radeon 4870

What should I upgrade?

Tidus brought up a good point. Your CPU would be the bottleneck at this point. 1920x1200 is a lot to ask for, so your processor will need to be overclocked to help a bit. Although the 1GB version of your graphics card will do a lot to help you as well (since 1920x1200 would command your graphics card a lot more).

But right now, trying overclocking your CPU and see what you get.

Just a thought...

I have similar spec playing L4D.
Core2 E8400 @ stock 3ghz
4gb DDR2
9850 @ slightly below stock (damn memory overheats)
1680x1050

My slowdowns aren't bad and only my CPU is faster than yours. Your res is a bit higher but I think your faster card compensates for that. So it suggests its the cpu.

Beware though Survival really seems to show up the crappy servers (and there's quite a lot of crappy servers at least here in europe). I can play the same map on a good server and all is peachy, but on another server it will chug horribly, I think it really burns through cpu cycles on the server plus needs pretty good rate.

Ive tried OC'ing and was met with a lot of instability. So I guess a faster CPU is my only option.
