Are you on a budget?

If not, shoot for Fatality or Elite Pro X-Fi soundcard, the lesser option without X-RAM like Etreme Music would do wonders for your gaming rig too. If you game with headphones, the onboard solution is denitely not going to make it man. Like Ghouler suggested, Audigy series is cool but if you are replacing the onboard solution, why not gun for a X-Fi altogther? I have the Fatality version and I have been playing BF 2 for quite a while now, trust me, when I recently went over to a friend's place for lan gaming party, I was stuck on a non X-Fi machine and I just dun feel quite right for the entire session! YOu need it if you are into gaming for sure :)

For that budget (even in AUS dollars) I would go with a dual core processor - at least a X2 3800+. It will serve you much better than the 3200+ or 3500+ single core. Of course, I don't know what's available in Australia so if you can't get dual core then just go with a 3200+. You can save some money and get similar performance by going with value RAM.

Just thinking out loud here... what if the parts were purchased here (US) and shipped to you by a fellow AT member? Would the cost savings justify that?
