First of all I have a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical. What do you guys thing of this for fps games? I think it's alright but kinda sluggish. I was wondering if I swithced from usb to ps/2 and upped the frequency..... Would I get any kind of improvement?
I like this mouse but I think I'd like a little more resolution. If you guys have any ideas please let me know. Thanks!

One question for ya, is it first or second generation (or third w/2 lasers now that they are out)
I have a second generation intelimouse and i think it does fine for fps games. One of my friends has a first generation mouse and it jumps horribly while trying to play FPS....

I have a Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical (Cool Blue)
Link, and it is alright for FPS. I much prefer my friends Boomslang 2000dpi

I am gonna have to get one of those after I get my new rig 🙂

The Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 (version 3) is amazing. If you have version 1 or 2, sell it and get a 3.0. Believe me, the difference is night and day 😀

i'm happy with both of my version2 intellimouse explorers. i'm not as fond of the shape on the version3 explorer.

MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 hands down. It shoots 6,000 lasers per second while others only shoot 1,500 per sec. I had Intellimouse Optical before I got my explorer 3.0 which was also very good for FPS games. I didn't have any problems with it, but Explorer 3.0 is so much better.

Sheesh, here I am using a cheapo $9.99 Inland optical mouse, and wondering why I seem like such an easy target. Maybe I will pick up a new mouse and report back.

they don't use lasers, its a super bright red LED. theres a little camera that takes pictures of the surface and compares them to figure out which way the mouse is traveling.

I have a second gen. I guess i'm just blaming my crappy marksmanship on my mouse 🙂 Sounds like everyone else is having good luck with theirs so I'll just leave it be.

My Logitech optical mouseman wheel(yes the blue one) is ok in gaming for me,anyway if you want one of the best optical for gaming I agree with the guys that say go with the Logitech dual optical.

🙂

I'm using the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 2.0, seems fine with all my games and I like the shape better than the 3.0. I don't play a lot of FPS games though, so the newer mice might be the way to go if you are hardcore.

I use logitech optical special edition (in cherry red, with a nice texture) and I've been accused of cheating in every Counterstrike server that I have played in. I have the mouse connected through PS/2 and it works fine in it. (Actually, I would have used USB except the USB ports on my motherboard are really flaky).

The best advantage of optical mice (imho) is that the fine adjustments are much more accurate. With wheel mice, it can be very difficult to move the cursor just a tiny bit, but with optical it is much more natural. Also, having a high sensitivity setting is a must (maxed setting under windows, and around
~12-20 under half-life, ~15-25 under quake3).

Love my Logitech optical too, been using it for years. Amazing for gaming too, USB will provide a better response than ps2. Human reactions aren't even close to fast enough to really make a difference though.
