Gaming on Widescreen

I have a Dell 8600 laptop with an ati 9600. The screen is a widescreen that I keep running at 1920x1200. Although, when I play games I have it set to run at 1024x768, but the video is stretched across the entire screen and takes away from the look of the games. I have seen computers with widescreens before play games in 1024x768 with the black area around the game. I googled it and read at some places to just read the guide that came with my laptop. I have read the manual and it has no solution to my question. Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There should be a setting in the drivers to do this if your monitor/screen doesn't support it (and it might not). I don't remember exactly where ATI hides it, but try looking in the "Monitors" ATI driver tab.

If that doesn't help, you can definitely do it with Powerstrip. But I'm almost certain the ATI drivers support this natively now.

some games will run in a window, that would work- it wouldnt take the whole screen though. what gaems are you playing? some games you can play that resolution but it'll stress your graphics card

there should be a "video expansion" or "stretch signal to fit" option somewhere in the drivers. just disable that and you're good to go 🙂

Dell laptops I think have this button called Font or A/A that you press to not have it stretch.
