gaming on the transformer prime w/ps3 gamepad

That's doing a damn fine job of really pushing me toward getting the Transformer Prime.

I've been holding out for a true tablet for a long time now. I have the Nook Color rooted with a CM7-based ROM, and enjoy what I get from - what was then - a $250 tablet.
I thought about getting the Kindle Fire (since the Nook Tablet has a locked bootloader this time around 🙁), but it's not a big enough upgrade. I told myself I'd hold onto the NC until I got a true 10" tablet.

iPad 2 looks nice, and is the market leader for performance, but I don't want to be dipping into two different ecosystems (Android phone and Apple tablet, requires double-dipping for paid apps). And I refuse to give up my Android phones at this time. 😛

I just don't know if I want to settle for Tegra 3 (Cortex A9, albeit quad-core), when Cortex-A15 SOCs are just around the corner (summer?).

I know the "something better is always coming soon" mantra, but the other consideration is the potential for far-more impressive GPUs in those SOCs. The GPU in the Tegra 3 isn't the greatest thing ever, not when the SGX543MP GPUs are so awesome (and scale linearly). The A5 is the MP2 (dual-core), and the upcoming PS Vita is MP4.
TI has some OMAP5 chips in the works that will have a SGX544MP GPU(assume a small increase over 543MP, like 5-10% at most I'd imagine), but still an undisclosed number of cores.

That might seem cool to show off to the typical consumer, but as an owner of a gaming PC, I wouldn't spend a penny on something like this.

IIRC, the difference between SGX544 and SGX543 is that SGX544 is DirectX compliant.

As an aside, the difference between SGX543 and SGX544 is purely that full DirectX 9 compliance is offered in the latter, making it a possible shoe-in for future Windows 8 platforms.

When I first started watching the video, I was very impressed.

Then I realized how much the tablet costs and how much a laptop can be had for. I just don't have enough uses for a tablet, but for someone who does, the prime looks pretty awesome

Ah, well if that's the case, I think I most definitely want to hold off purchasing anything until OMAP5 platforms are in the market. Other Cortex A15 SOCs might have SGX544s but many GPU specs haven't been announced, only the CPU-specific details have been released thus far.

I'd love to have a beast of an Android tablet, that I can also likely hack in a dual-boot with Windows 8. :awe:

Having to use the dock and wire is pretty lame. If it worked via bluetooth, it would be cool.
