I'm thinking about getting a laptop with good gaming capibilities as a backup to my desktop system.

Can anyone make any suggestions from experience? Thanks.

I too am looking for a Gaming Notebook, I have decided to wait until more notebooks with the Ati 9600 pro or the Nvidia 5600 come out. I want to buy it with a Centrino processor. They should come out this September, (I hope)

Check out lappies made by sager (they are the company that supplies Alienware). The best retailer for them that I've seem is PCtorque.com

powernotebooks.com. I recommend the 17inch wide screen with 1gb of pc2700 ram and Radeon 9000 64mb.

The Centrino isn't really a processor. The processor you want is the Pentium M. Centrino is a packaged deal with the PM, Intel mobo, & intel wifi built in.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, especially the link to Sager laptops and powerbook.com.

The only thing about Sagers is

1. They are heavy mofos
2. Poor(er) battery life than other lappies due to the desktop processor in them.

What do you mean by heavy mofos? Any examples? I was thinking being a smaller company, it would have better support than bigger manufacturers.

Also, the CPUs aren't mobile CPUs? You mean same as a desktop?

Thanks

some of those sagers on powernotebooks.com weigh like 5.5lbs some even less and have like 4 hrs of battery life in thier centrino lines that doesn't sound to bad to me...

powernotebooks is in the top 5 on reseller ratings and I have heard wonderful things about them too I plan on buying a lappy from them soon actually, the PowerPro C 3:16 probably, light fast and good battery life sounds good to me!!!

Don't get a heavy laptop just so that you can play games. It totally defeats the point of having a laptop. If you want a powerful, portable system, get a SSF box and an LCD. My Dell Inspiron 8200 is a 10 pound beast in its case along with the power cables and a few accessories. It gets really heavy after carrying it around campus all day.
