R2 Mark II

I saw this on Tomshardware the other day and it looked odd so I did a little more research.
Other that it's strange looks, it has many other "qualities" that distinguish it from other mice.

- Runs on 3 ball bearings.
- 12mhz cpu and ram for storing up to 30 profiles
- 4 top and 3 side Membrame switches for buttons (think tv remote buttons)
- No drivers, everything is onboard
- Designed to be controled by your fingers not your entire hand
- Variable dpi up to 1600dpi in 100dpi increments
- "Smart" buttons recognize clicks, holds, and double clicks.
- Other stuff

I realize some of these features are sort of bogus, but some seem to make a lot of sense to me.

Mostly its really weird. My roommates all think it is hideously ugly. I want one.

Thoughts? Anyone else seen, or even better, used one of these? I wasn't able to find any sort of reviews.

Interesting - especially the stored profiles idea - but the physical design seems terrible.

Control by fingers instead of hand = much quicker route to tiring out your mousing hand, no?

Saw it, never tried it. The biggest problem would probably be that it's.... round. Try tilting your mouse 30 degrees and move it horizontaly on your pad, you cursor on the screen will move 30 degrees off axis. With round mouse there is no point of reference on the correct orientation of the mouse, it would drive anyone nuts that the mouse moves off axis instead of a straight line.

I see no reason why moving fingers would be more work than moving your entire hand. Worst case it takes you a week for the muscles to develop.

Supposedly there are arrows, and side buttons, so maybe that isn't an issue?

What disturbs me the most:
No mouse wheel.
No side buttons on the left. I love my mx500 side buttons for forward and back when browsing.

I mostly use my fingers and a bit or wrist to control my mx510. I dont move my wrist off the gelpad.

Your wrist doesn't bend? I think the idea is that with a traditional mouse, your wrist may not translate, but it bends left and right. With this mouse it doesn't even bend.

I think I may have to buy this mouse to find out how awesome/terrible it is.

I can't believe that out of all the people on this forum, none of you have ever used one of these.
