Gaming mouse and Pad help please.

Are they good? Does anyone know if they work well together?

Also does anyone know a better mouse for the same price? Is their any downsides to this mouse? And any hidden pros? I found out that there is a button that slows down sensitivity while you hold it which is very cool to me and I didn't see it advertised.

Has anyone used this mouse or the mouse pad? I don't want to waste 100 NZD

Surely you mean R.A.T. 5, not Cat 5? I don't think it's a very good mouse, it's expensive, heavy and looks uncomfortable although I haven't used it myself. You should be able to find a more suitable mouse for a lower price.

Usually, recommending a mouse is not easy because people have such different preferences on what they find comfortable to use. What kinds of games do you play, are your hands normal size, and do you know how you want to grip the mouse? Do you have any requirements as to the number of extra buttons on the mouse?

Mouse pads are also somewhat dependent on preference - plastic vs cloth, high friction vs low friction, large or small etc. But if you have no experience with gaming mouse pads, I think a large cloth pad with low-medium friction is a good starting point.

I meant Rat 5. I am getting it from NZGAMESHOP so it's around 40 NZD less than elsewhere plus free shipping. Most people say it look uncomfortable but I have heard a lot that it's pretty nice it just looks uncomfortable and you can change the weight and size of it.

I don't play MMOs so I don't need many extra buttons. This year I am planing to play ROME 2 BF4 and M&B Bannerlord so this mouse should easily fit all of those and the games I own.

I am limited by space on my desk so I am planning of getting the smallest of the mouse pads I linked (which is actually still pretty big). I have heard control mouse pads can be uncomfortable and are not very good when play FPS games as a frontline infantry man. Since I am getting BF4 I don't want a mouse pad that actually makes it harder playing.

I am 80% sure I want this mouse and pad I am just wondering if their is any pros and cons I am unaware of and if there is a better mouse for the same price.

I had a RAT 9 for a while so although not the same mouse its very similar. It was the worst mouse I have ever owned. It weighs a significant amount, its simply far too heavy. But I also had connectivity issues. But the real problem is actually the Z axis issue the sensor suffers from combined with the very high lift off distance. The combination of those two is killer for a low sensitivity gamer like myself and I could never get on with it.

Presumably since your buying gamer mice what you want is a gamers mouse and mouse pad. So how about we find you something that is likely to be good for you? A few questions:

1) How do you hold the mouse? Use http://www.razerzone.com/mouseguide/ergonomic/clawgrip for a reference (look at all three and tell us which is you)

2) What DPI do you run the mouse at? IE are you low or high sensitivity?

3) Do you have a preference for hard or cloth mats, low or high friction?

1 I use the palm grip.

2 I am high sensitivity gamer. I couldn't never get used to almost lifting the mouse up to move it over and over again just to get from one end of the screen to the other.. That is why I have used a trackball mouse for 8 years in a row.... I like to go from one end of the screen to the other in one flick. This mouse can go at 5600 dpi so I will probably go for 3500 and see how it is and adjust it from there.

3 I want a low friction mat which is why a chose the razer speed edition.

Because of how I will be using it I don't think I will have your issues.
I also like this mouse as you can change its size. I have been using a massive trackball mouse for a long time now so I want a big (not necessarily heavy) mouse. There is supposed to be weights you can take out to adjust the weight. I was using a wireless mouse the other day and I hated how small it was! It was so tiny I almost crushed it... So yea a big mouse for me.

I use a Razer Goliathus Omega "Control" edition (wow, what a long name) and like it quite a lot. IMHO there is not much difference between the speed and control editions, especially once it is broken in. I've never had an issue with the size of the Omega, in fact I only use about half the width of the pad because I claw and want to be able to do a 180 without lifting my wrist.

I don't have any opinion of the RAT 5/9.

I have heard of people not liking the control edition as it can hurt your arm where is rests on the table. I Want the speed edition as I do not like getting snagged on little bumps.
Although true that you can break it in I don't want to bother if I can just buy the speed edition. I play on a high sensitivity so I want a small pad because of my tight desk. I can't snipe in any game on my xbox because I play with high sensitivity. Since this mouse has a slow mo button I might finally be able to do it when I get BF4 =)

I don't see any way the control edition can hurt your arm. It's literally fabric.
