I'm looking for an lcd for gaming, what should I be looking for? Is 25ms good enough I've heard no from some people...what kind of specs should I be looking for?

I'm looking for a good deal but I want to make sure that it works fine and all with my games don't want ghosting etc - looking for either a 17" or 19"

Let me know what I should be looking for thanks a bunch.
 
25ms is too slow for most games, you will notice ghosting. 16ms is usually adequate, 12ms and below is excellent. What price range are you looking at?
 
I just ordered the Viewsonic VP171B-2, which is a new 17 inch 8ms lcd. Got it on special through Dell for $348, but I think they're above $400 now. Another popular model is the Samsung 710T, which is a 12ms panel.
 
im gonna second the dont go w/ a 25ms you will notice ghosting. go w/ a viewsonic or samsung and you won't regret your purchase. personally i like viewsonic LCDs better
 
How many frames per second do you want to be able to see? 40? 60? With LCD's the ms response will tell you
how many frames the screen is capable of per second.

The formula is 1 second to milliseconds which is 1000 milliseconds. Then divide it by the response time.

1000ms / 25 ms = 40 frames per second

1000ms / 16 ms = 62.5 frames per second

...explain how you use MS in your equation but your answer comes out in a unit with seconds
not tryingh to flame, but I am trying to understand
 
Thanks guys ya I mean I'm looking for the best bang for the buck was looking for a 17" @ $250 or less but I doubt I'll find that @ under 16ms...any help?

The Samsung 710N is a great monitor that is close to your price range. It is basically the same monitor as the 710T, but non-DVI. It has a 12ms response time. Right now it is $295 at newegg: http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=24-001-171&depa=0

Just a few weeks ago I saw the 712N (which is the retail version of the 710N, same specs) at Best Buy for $250 after rebates, so you might check out some places like that.

think the $100 is worth it at all for DVI version of 710 (710T) ?
anandtech reviews says it makes quality a lot better with less ghosting.
 
I havea samsung 712n, it has a 12ms responce time and a 600:1 contrast ratio. Personally, i think it is great. I cannot notice any ghosting unless i intentionally try to look for it. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good gaming LCD.

Humm!

1000 ms = 1 s

so,

(1000ms / 1s) or (1 / 1) = 1

and,

(1 / 25 ms) = (1 / 25*10-3) = 40

Therfore,

1 * 40 = 40

This dimensional stuff hurts my brain. Wouldn?t it be easer to say, take the reciprocal of the response time to get fps?
 
could be wrong but i THINK that's exactly what he's doing

say you've got 16ms response time.

1second / 16milliseconds = 62.5 frames possible per second

ie, 16ms fits 62.5 times into 1 second

I have a Proview 19" LCD with 16ms response which I purchased for $250AR.

I'm playing Half Life 2 with absolutely no problems/ghosting.
