currently i have the viewsonic vx900 19" lcd and i moved up from a sharp 17" lcd except im noticing ghosting alot more. i have about 700 bucks to upgrade to a new LCD and i was just wondering what looks like the best LCD for gaming, i mean least ghosting, and best picture quality- im running a 6800gt so the higher the resolution the better! im currently looking at this monitor on newegg.
 
I have the Dell 2001FP and I love it (1600 x 1200, 20.1", 16ms response).... I got it on sale for $629 (It's $799 now, but it goes on sale often).

If you want at 16x9 aspect, the Dell 2005FPW is nice. It's 1600x1200, 20.1" also, but it has a 12ms response time (better for gaming). Its on sale now for $719.

From what I understand, these are made by LG. I really like mine alot!
 
the 2001FP is bascially that viewsonic monitor, only with Composite and S-Video

plus of course, dell logos and the color . . .
 
Without a doubt the very best gaming lcd on the market right now is the Viewsonic VP912b. 19inch, 12ms, dvi obviously. 600 bucks at newegg
 
Or the sony hs94p which uses the same screen as the viewsonic and I believe is slightly better. Also, I think a 19" lcd is better with one video card as then you can run absolutely any game at 1280x1024 with awesome framerates and usually full anti aliasing and AF settings to make it look amazing, better than 1600x1200 with no AA or AF. Doom 3 chops a bit at 1600x1200 even with a 6800 ultra so I prefer to run it at 1280x1024 for much faster framerates, and I'm sure later games that come out based off of the doom 3 engine will run the same or close to it. Of course SLI 6800 gt's will tear up doom 3 at well over 100 fps at 1600x1200 so then a 1600x1200 lcd is definitely the way to go with an SLI setup.
 
out of curiosity i have two questions, how big is the difference between 19" and 20" is it that noticeable? i guess the main difference is resolution since most 19" are 1280x1024 and the widescreen monitors, do most games support that resolution? or do they run kinda funky w/ everyone lookin a lil fatter
 
I use the Samsung 213T. It's 21.3" LCD 25ms response. I really don't see ghosting unless there's a huge change in contrast. And it movies look great on it.
 
It seems like I'm the only one in existence or something, but I was thoroughly unimpressed with the 2001FP. I'd ordered one last month, and my brother actually got one before mine was to ship, so I tested his out connected to my video card (and his too). I couldn't believe the amount of ghosting/blurriness I was seeing in games, especially after reading all the praise about the monitor on these forums...

Basically, I cancelled my order and now have a 22" NEC-Mitsubishi CRT on its way. (The one that can do 1600x1200 @ 109Hz, mmmmmm 🙂)

I'm most certainly in the minority here, but I thought I'd just put in my two cents....not everyone is in love with these so-called "gaming" LCD's....
 
Like many others i have the 2001FP and think its a great monitor. I bought it because its a good gaming LCD, its big, I got a deal, and my 19"CRT was wrecking my eyes plus giving me headaches.

What I didn't really factor into the equation when I bought this was the need for a new video vard. I had a 9800pro that worked great on my CRT @1024X768 max'd settings on the games I liked to play. No such luck on the 2001FP. I could run OK fps @16X12 as long as I turned the eye candy way down and It scales pretty well, but it seemed a shame to spend all that money on a big LCD and not have a great picture, so I forked over alot more cash for a high-end apg card that works great NOW on high settings @16X12, but I can imagine that in a year or so I won't be able to run the newer games without scaling or turning down the settings.

I used to be a middle of the road value vid card guy... not any more.

It's still a great monitor.

I got a 19" Viewsonic VX910 for $448 bux with DVI and really quick rise/fall. With a DVI cable and tax it comes to like $520 or soemthing....

Save the rest of your cash for strippers... or books or something
 
Love my Sony SDM HS-94P. It's been good for gaming and anything else.My other monitor is a Mitsubishi DiamondPro 2060U 22",wich is very hard to beat with anything,wether CRT or LCD.
Each has their own specific qualities and both are great for anything.
 
2001FP runs 1600x1200 no problem with my 9800pro, no ghosting, looks great, no screen door affect that I can see.

Gotta run the 2001FP with DVI. Did you try that? Maybe your brother has a bum one, but your experience is strange for sure. That CRT you chose is a nice one, though.

Yes, I ran the 2001FP with DVI. 😛

However....I'm actually kind of unimpressed with the CRT. (Maybe I just have impossibly high standards?)

Two separate video cards I've run on two separate identical 22" NEC CRT's have produced the same results - not quite focused from corner to corner, some geometry problems (small), especially as you crank up the resolution and refresh rate (which is what I intended to do). So now I think I'm actually going to send this back and just settle for a 2001FP for now, since I don't have to do any messing around for that to display a clear image at least. 😛 I wish there were a better LCD out, but when one comes out next year or something I'll probably just end up buying it too...

Edit: The fact that the 2001FP is 3.5x lighter than the CRT and that I live on the fourth floor of my dorm are deciding factors as well, but I was willing to stick with the CRT if it had been worth it...

I agree, if you actually read the anandtech review, you see that they do not recommend it as a gaming monitor. Personally, I think they are overpriced crap.
 
vx910 is on sale at bestbuy for 399 after rebate 16ms response time dvi.... reviews I have seen say no ghosting in games or movies. looks like a smart buy to me
 
I actually ordered the 2005FPW last week, and I'm very much hoping that its stated 12ms response time will help it suck less for gaming than the 2001FP, to put it bluntly. But as I'd said before...I wasn't impressed with the CRT either, not to mention its insane weight, so I'm kind of in a bind here. I really don't want to go back to my small 17" CRT, the 22" CRT I tried was not that great, the 2001FP is really nice for non-gaming applications (but unfortunately I'm a gamer), so that basically leaves me to hope for the 2005FPW...
