Since I first started college, its been a total b*tch dragging all my stuff up (especially my full tower case+19inch crt). Normal people would just go buy a flat panel and not look back, but I am a hardcore gamer. Its a fact that flat panel displays are not recommended for gaming but some newer technologies must have hit the market by now.

Its just getting to be too much hassle to drag this 50 pound crt to college every year(ViewSonic p95f+ 19inch). So I am turning to you, the professionals, to help me :)

Can anyone recommend a good large (19inch or up) flat panel LCD monitor that performs well for GAMING.

I already created a list of possible monitors I could use for gaming/dvd playback (need feedback please)

Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW

NEC LCD1970GX-BK

PLEASE HELP :)

I have the Hyundai LD90+ . No complaints, even with Doom 3. For movie playback, it's kinda twinkling (6 bit panel= not great), but games look great! It's very bright with good contrast, and it looks good to.

Viewsonic also makes some very fast lcds.

Viewsonic VP191B.

From another Tomshardware roundup on 19 inch LCDs:

Given the performance of the latter, it's hard to recommend one of these panels in comparison to what a ViewSonic 191b can offer. If you can't afford a ViewSonic 191s (now available for less than $500), the best choice is a Hyundai L90D+. It's a little less responsive than the 191b/s, but it costs less.

I don't own it (yet), but I've read nothing but great things about the L90D+.

I think you read the wrong thing. Look again, there's two monitors he's reviewing.

Here again there's no contest. The 191b performed extremely well compared to the VG912. But since the VG912s is not the fastest 19" monitor we've seen, we compared it with the L90D+, which is closer to being at the front of the pack for LCD reactivity. The gap was closed, but we still found the VP191b more responsive overall. The L90D+ might possibly have a slight advantage in rapid transitions (black/white), but it's really a slim one.

But the VP191b, the L90D+ and the VG912 all offer good, saturated colors in games, which in itself improves the playing experience.

On movies:

The VP191b does better. First, as we've mentioned, its viewing angles are wider. Then its black level is very deep, which is naturally an advantage when screening DVDs in 16:9 format. Less video noise was visible on color masses, but we did see artifacts in tracking shots against shaded backgrounds. So we're still short of perfection.
