Gaming Laptops & Overheating?

Simple question.

Do high end gaming laptops (i'm think $5k from alienware type stuff) overheat and thus fry in about 2 years or less?

And if so, are there avable coolers that will extend the life consiterably.

Having it in your lap is not ah issue. I'm not actually buying a laptop or know a friend who is going it, i just want to know if this is true.

since you or someone you know isn't buying one i guess this doesn't help but what you could do is this: if you have a 2 year warranty, the last 3 months run some stress tests with your laptop in a 120+ degree room overnight every night. hopefully it'll bust the laptop and cause the manufacturer (in this case alienware) will replace it 😛

i think the GPU actually has a signficant impact on the heat of the laptop. as ShellGuy said, if you have a mobile chip you should be good in that respect but i'm pretty sure the Go7900 (or 7950 something) run hotter than the lower end cards

The GPUs will be the main source of heat in a laptop.
Having a high end laptop on your lap = Buh bye children.
Just having good amount of space around the laptop should be enough to keep it cool, if the cooling system is designed properly.
There are some laptop coolers out which can help lower the temperatures of a laptop by blowing cool air onto the laptop's surface.
