Gaming Laptop

I'm looking for a gaming laptop, budget is $2,500 including taxes. What companies make the best gaming laptops? I've been looking at the Dell 9300 and XPS M170, it seems that the XPS is much more expensive but also supports the 7800gtx GO. Is it worth spending the extra money?

Being a anti-laptop guy I will reccomend a micro-ATX setup but that requires hauling around a monitor.

Ive owned a dell laptop (mediocre) model, wasnt a gamer machine, I won't knock it down because it did what it was made for and it is still running hard after a few years.

Whatever you end up buying look into options for upgrading it later on.

You would be better off asking next time in the Notebook forum. But i would say either the XPS or the 9300 both from dell.. Or you could look in to a custom system from a webcompany..

Dell makes good laptops. Some people hate Dell like some people hate Microsoft. Not all models are created equal though. If dell is still offering any rebate coupons (not sure if they are still) then definetly look into Dell. I used one of their 40% coupons last August and saved over $1600 on a new XPS Gen2 lappy. Its been the best lappy I have owned yet. 🙂

I never see the coupons offered on the XPS lappys. Only on the 9300s and below and also almost never on the Business lappys...

Go over to http://www.notebookforums.com/ and see if the coupons are still given out. If they are that site will be one of the first to post them. You have to jump on those coupons fast becuase they hit their limit quickly so be ready to buy on a moments notice. I wish you luck.

Thescreen,
This looks kinda like the one you posted but cheaper. Gotta Deal is normally one of the first to have the dell coupons out. They also have a great black friday site when the time comes.

dell is pretty good at obsuring whether you're getting a good deal or not. the only way to really know is to pick your configuration and start tracking its price, along with any free extras you might get.

Problem I find with Alienware is that they are too pricey. You can get a comparable laptop for less than what Alienware charges. Alienware has its loyal fans though.

Both are better and cheaper than Dells, sadly, even though I own an M170.

I have a sager as well, it's great. Not quite cutting edge gaming, but still competitive.

15.4" WUXGA (1920x1200)

Sager is good but I'd order one through a third party that offers better support and warranty. Sager's customer service support isnt very good from what I hear.

Laptops suck for gaming. But if you really want one I'd go with the DELL XPS.

Saying they suck is a bit strong I think. They dont suck if you have a highend laptop but its true they arent as good generally speaking as a desktop is. Their biggest drawback is upgradeability although they have improved some in this area. Still, the desktop is a better gaming platform compared to the laptop.

Gaming laptops are nice, but way way way way errr..... way way overpriced. You can build one nice stationary box instead for like 1/6th the price.

I like the dell xps better than most for the price. should do well in gaming also if you get a good graphics card with it.
