I bought these headphones, from here LINK
These phones have awesome sound. I love the sound of the Paratrooper rifle in RTCW, it sounds great. They are also a joy to listen to music with.;)

Lan headphones should be closed/earbud style, comfortable, and cheap in case of theft/damage. If you just want a set of closed headphones with decent bass - Sony MDRV6 for $60. In your case since you said that money was no object, look into some quality midrange products that can also function for home stero use - Senn 580 ~$200/Beyer series or if you really want to impress - then the Ety ER4S/P ~$300. The grados listed above are nice but the open designs leaks a lot of sound and you'll hear everyone else while playing. Personally I just use $20 bestbuy Aiwa x222 or $17 SenMX500 earbuds.

Since you want gaming, the grados sr-60 would be nice, but wont deliver the bass and surround you will get from sony mdr-v6s!!

They're only $60, and they're great! just do a search at head.fi.org or other audiohile websites and you'll see a bunch of listings! Grados are only good for music imo

Senn HD600's, hands down. Contact Jan Meier on headwize dot com for a price you can't beat. And people are going to say that they need an external amp to function correctly, and in most cases they are right. However, the headphone jack on my GTXP drives the sh!t outta them.

I've got the Sennheiser HD570's and running them without an amp. Plugged into the breakout box on a Hercules Game Theater XP. Love em!

I wouldn't recommend the HD600s for gaming, that would be overkill. Plus you'd have to buy another amp, which would run you at least 150. Anything along the Sony and lower Grado line should do you fine, as they don't require an amp.

grado, headroom, creek all make decent amps. Everybody has their preferences.

I would personally go with headphones that don't need them for gaming, but then again I've never taken my gaming very seriously.

Plantronics HS-1

Not bad at all.

I don't play a lot of games unless there are friends about, but the above is what I bought for all my gaming PC's (I have 4 in a room for the occasional game fest).

Alternatively if it's a great headphone you're after, I'm quite partial to my Jecklin Float Electrostatics, currently manufactured by Precide which I use on my stereo. An updated version with a different driver, the ERGO, is available which is apparently great for use on PC's.

Here's Precide's site. They must have really splurged on their website developer...

Like I said, you may need an amp for the HD600's, but not true in all cases. I built my portable amp for about $30, nice Cmoy/Hansen amp.

Overkill for computer use? In the computer world, NOTHING is overkill. Otherwise we wouldn't overclock, mod our cases, rob banks to buy the latest GeForce gfx card..........lolol

And if you've never played Q3A thru a set of HD600's, you're missing out.
