either a HD 6950 or HD 7850 @1920x1080 and BF3, MW3, Black Ops, WOW, Dirt3, Portal 2, Skyrim etc

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. Get a good non reference designed 7850. 6950 falls to its knees in tessellation.

Why not get a Phenom II, someone said there was a sale on a Phenom II X4 955BE for $85 that just expired, but you can still find those for cheap... 965BE for $109 too. Better IPC than Bulldozer right? So just oc the heck out of it.

I suppose, old Phenom II are just as good but they are getting hard to find nowadays.

Bulldozer [FX] pro's:
Lower idle power consumption
More predictable overclocking
Some newer instructions [not sure, if any use]

Phenom II [955/965/1045T] pro's:
Better IPC
Price
Higher resale value

I'd choose 8120 if to get FX, though. Otherwise, best deal. This is hot, if you can drive to. (realistic overclock for your mobo >= 3.4 Ghz). Not bad for $100.

Why is everyone suggesting FX and not Phenom X6, if benchmarks show that it's as fast or faster than it? Shouldn't it be much cheaper also, as older CPU?

Alright, thank you, it's clearer now 🙂 I guess some hidden 'features' are better in FX as well. Though knowing the succesfulness of the line, it could be other way around...

yea that's true but i couldn't find a decent nvidia card that will last at least 3 years

I can't find any video card that will be as good in 3 years as it is today. So I don't understand what you're trying to say.

FWIW: $400 for a GTX 670 is a STEAL.

Well, given the microcenter prices. I'd still snag that 1045T though. $100 vs $150. Price matters. At $150... I might as well pay a bit more and go with 2500K.

I'd rather spend ~$200-250 and upgrade every two years.

i rather stick with a FX for rendering
8120 is a solid contender, imo.

Don't forget to post up some benches when you are all done 🙂

i can't decide between the FX-4100. FX-6100, or FX-8120. any recommendations, I have an AM3+ board so I don't want to move to intel. I will use this machine for gaming (BF3 skyrim etc) and 3D rendering.

Fixed your OP for you. Would have saved a lot of hassle

ok im going with the 8120 and hd 7850 oc edition sapphire. and ill have some benches up as soon as possible ?
