Is this a good set up? I need a system that will be at the near top of its game for at least 2 years.

Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
AMD 2X 4400+
7900 GT 256
1G DDR PC3200 (can I get a higher DDR spec for this above MB?)
Serial ATA 7200 x16 250G
550W Power Supply

thanx

If you're gonna spend that much for a 7800 gtx, which is overpriced right now, I suggest you to get a 7900gt instead...a bit faster and cheaper, like $100-150 cheaper. Or spend a bit more for a 7900gtx. 7800gtx is a waste of money right now. If you only intend to use one card then get a x1900xt or a x1900xtx from ATI. Get 2 gigs of RAM too, games like FEAR will bottleneck you

it seems you took tig ol bitties' suggestion of switching to the 7900GT (very good choice). he's correct on the 2 gigs of ram too

are you overclocking at all? and what power supply? what brand, etc.

Ok, the A8N32 is a good board, but since it costs twice what a good single card board does i'd ditch it for the A8N E or the DFI or Epox single card boards. Do you really think that you'll be upgrading to SLI in the future when in a year or two you'll want DX10 cards?

4400X2 is a good CPU, if you're not overclocking, if you are you can save a few bucks and get the opteron 165 which will overclock as well or better

2 GB of RAM (cheap and cheerful is best, $140 or so for budget stuff at the moment)

Don't get the Truepower II PSU, i'm assuming that's what you're looking at as it's a very common budget choice. Get a 400W enermax liberty, or maybe 430W s12, 450W fortron (if you want to savve some money) or something similar.
