Hi, I have around $1000 to spend on a new gaming computer and monitor. This will be used for the sole purpose of playing Diablo 3. I dont know much about computer and will probably just buy it of ebay so I need some help on how to go about choosing. What do I need to look for in order to be able to play this game smoothly on max settings and 1080p?

thank you for any suggestions.

Are you sure you don't want to learn to build your own? You would get more bang for your buck that way and it's easy to learn.

pretty silly to buy out of the box for anything IMO. Even sillier to buy off ebay... <.<

Since when have manufacturer's requirements been even remotely in touch with reality? :awe: I find it hilarious that they recommend a 4870 or GTX 260 for PC, but only a GT 330M or 4670 for Mac.

OP, my advice is, its a Blizzard game so it will probably run fine on anything. We won't know how much it takes to max the game out until at least a beta comes out.

Well Friends and Family Beta is out now, so I'm hoping for some user testing to come out soon. What I'm really hoping for on Blizz's part is that this game fully utilizes multiple core CPUs, specifically more than 2 cores, which has always been WoW's weak point. I'm also curious if they've been able to improve the performance for HT cores as well. In WoW, you saw about zero performance gain from HT CPUs over their physical core-only brethren.

If you have 1000 dollars to spend for Diablo III, please wait. You need to be practical and smart

1) Will you even like Diablo III?
2) Everything you buy will be obsolete when Diablo III comes out

Don't be suckered into upgrading because of a videogame trailer. That is the worst way to spend a large chunk of change. Trust me, I want DIII to be as good as you do, but be smart.

Good points.

OP, you really should wait until the game is closer to release. You'll get better deals on better parts then and you'll have a good idea of what the game needs.

Ebay isn't THAT bad. I buy miscellaneous parts off there all the time with no problem. Granted its not the first place I'd look if I had 1k to blow on a system.

exactly. A part or something is no big deal, but for whole computers you build yourself one or go to one of the big boys.

You put it together yourself, or you buy from Dell, Boxx, falcon, maingear, cyberpower, or iBuyPower. Those are really your only options (excluding some I don't know of I'm sure). I'd recommend putting it together yourself, but you seem pretty set on the having it built for you thing.

EDIT: BTW, you can also get a lot more building it yourself than you can having it built for you. Manufacturers generally tack on an extra 20%-60% just for kicks xD. You seem to be kind of confused as to how the whole "custom PC" thing works. You either put the work into customizing it for yourself, or you need to buy a manufacturer computer and who knows what corners they'll cut to turn a profit.

Blizzard habitually makes their games run well on older hardware, you very likely won't need a bleeding edge build to run it on max. Not that it won't help.
