Wireless isn't a gimmick. It's an option for those of that do not want wires thrown out across the living room while we game or that don't have the option of running wire to another area on a cost basis.

My water cooler has software with it because it can respond to temperature changes in the color of the LED. It can also shutdown my PC, set all the fans on high and email me if the water cooler fails or a temp reaches a level that I'm not comfortable with.

Lmao, yeah enjoy all that guff. Im sticking to my hunk of metal with a fan attached that will continue to cool even if the fan falls off/breaks somehow. The more added fluff a product has the more things can go wrong with it.

Ill agree that wireless controllers are pretty cool, wireless mice though... nope.

That's a fail safe, just as my servers rack after rack kick up the fans to 100% if you pull the lid off of one of them running.

You would be happy to know though that my HTPC runs at zero fan mode in purely passive heat transfer unless gaming - that's with a 41% Overclock (4.8 Ghz daily, no de-lid) on a 3570k and a 970 GTX that is beyond normal "safe" zone OC.

I just purchased a new Logitech 502 mouse, I really got surprised or even shocked of the cheap quality they made the mouse of. Is that a $90 mouse Logicrap ?
A huge difference between it and the MX518.

That was my impression when I picked it up at Best Buy and why I didn't even consider it.

Oh great, I just bought a 502 mouse as a spare for $80 because of the $50 steam card promotion. Maybe it should go back.

I take comfort in knowing I'm not the only person who finds wireless to be extremely slow.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sue1Zvmh8JA#t=165
Real life test of a file transfer: less than 1 MB/s :'(
That video convinced me to buy powerline network equipment, and I'm really glad I did. I get about the same speed as the guy in the video, somewhere around 5-6 MB/s real world transfer speed.

I also found that my PS3 was basically useless when it used a wireless connection. It would start downloading an update and it would never get to 100%. On a wired connection, it worked fine.

Network was setup wrong if he is getting less than 1MB/s.

I had to manually configure which channels my wireless used in the advanced settings of my router before I got normal speeds. If you're getting less than 1 MB/s there is something wrong with the setup.

I had that less than 1 MB/s issue a couple of months ago. Did a little googling, changed every setting off auto in my router to a specific number, took a lot of fiddling and guessing, after a couple of hours, I got the "max" speed possible.

I had to do the SAME thing for powerline adapters too (test each socket in my wall til I found one that worked well, and then figure out which devices were disrupting it which took awhile as well). Sadly, things don't work as easily as they used to.

MX518/MX510 are the last great mouses I've ever seen. If I had known quality would go down hill after that I would have bought more of them. I've actually had TWO of them stolen from me. And I'm talking out of everything in the room(Computer, money, clothes, etc.) they decided "Hey, I only want this really cool mouse!"

You're comparing a gaming wired mechanical keyboard to a gaming wireless mouse made by Logitech.

The Logitech Support forums speak for themselves in that regard, as an early adopter of the G700s I wasn't aware of the issues that it had, hopefully people are more aware.

The G502 is a mouse

I didn't see the G502, all I saw was the G510s in the app. Oh well, none the less, my G5 keyboard

I tried the G502 at the store, it felt like a cheap plastic hunk but that's my personal opinion. The G510s I did take home at one point but the Macro buttons were oddly placed so I couldn't use WASD while using them, defeating the purpose for me personally so it was exchanged for the Razer.

I have two Logitech G700 mice, and they work fine. I have noticed a bit of the textured surface coming off, but it's not a huge deal. I also see some weirdness when I use wireless, but I think that might be related to the receiver being very close to my wireless router. To note, I use my G700 with two PCs. I use it wired with my desktop, and wireless with my work laptop. So, wireless isn't my ideal setup for this. The only bad part about the G700's cable is that it's kind of thick. Also, I do not use Logitech software. I've never seen it as very good, and I'd rather keep it off my PC.

As for WiFi, you have to keep in mind that there are many variables that can modify how well it performs. First of all, the numbers on the box? In most cases, they're a pipe dream! First of all, just to be clear, let's just state that those numbers are bits per second not bytes. Second, those numbers are based upon the absolute max that the router supports. For example, a 600Mbps 802.11n router actually supports 4x transmission; however, if your wireless device doesn't, you will never get that speed. In my experience, most laptops support either 1x or 2x receive (note: transmission on the router correlates to receive on the device), which means you're limited to 150Mbps or 300Mbps at best.

There's also the switch over to 5GHz that can make things worse. I know, I know... everyone stated that 5GHz is better than 2.4GHz, and it does have some advantages as we greatly saturated the 2.4GHz frequency. However, higher frequencies have one inherent downside: worse transmission through physical objects (i.e. walls). One thing that most people probably don't realize is that this is one of the reasons why Verizon's LTE service is usually a bit better indoors (albeit, tower location trumps all factors). Verizon won the 700MHz spectrum auction where as AT&T typically operates on the 1700MHz and 1900Mhz spectrum (note: Verizon does use it a bit as well). I recall reading an article a few months ago where some cellular provider (I think it was T-Mobile) was complaining that Verizon got too much of the prime spectrum when they won the 700MHz spectrum auction.

Logitechs quality in general has went down over the years. I've went through one after another G500 mice (rarely last a year), but still have old marbles that work just fine and they are going on 10+ years old.

I felt the same about Razer, all my Razer mice have gone faulty with bad clicks after awhile etc...I ended up with a gaming mouse from ebay and it's still going strong after many years of use.

Not sure about all the Razer hate....Really like my BW Ultimate KB. I have 2 of them actually...the older one with the blue switches still runs great and I actually REALLY like the new proprietary green switches in the newest keyboard. They work great...

I'm with you; I had a Mamba for a while and it went to absolute crap after only a handful of months. I've been rocking a Logitech G-something for the past couple of years now and it has been rock solid.

Whenever a gaming company gets tied up with shareholders, they start to suck on a customer basis.

PS- I like both Razer and Steelseries, but yes Razer can be overpriced and terrible but the Taipan is the only one right now that I like from them, I've gone through a Diamondback, Copperhead, Deathaddr, etc. and the Diamondback was the best (lasted me nearly 5 years while the Copperhead lasted me a month). Steelseries Xai and Sensei are nice, but now they don't make those 4 side buttons anymore, I'm left handed and all I can find are those right handed 2 side button mice.

I solely used the MX518 since it became available, replaced it maybe twice during the years, and now I can't let it go for the G502, which been purchased since three weeks already and still in it's box.

I guess I got lucky on my last experience with logitech. I had broken my G600 and about half the side buttons wouldn't work. I took apart the mouse trying to fix it myself but a connector was broken inside, when I emailed their support about it they just asked me for a reciept and then sent me a new mouse. I thought they wouldn't do anything for me since I took the mouse apart myself, originally I was just asking for the connector part number so I could fix it myself but I ended up getting a while new mouse out of it.

Logitech used to have really good support or at least I may have gotten lucky. When I had an issue with a joystick they just sent me another one for free and didn't care about getting the old one back because they knew about the design flaw.

I'm going to be calling both companies today. One to RMA the Logitech (or at least try again) and one to RMA the MMO razer keyboard. I wonder if I should record the calls? If they will listen then.

Does anyone else have any experience with steel series or roccat? How's the software side of them and the support?

For a rant thread this does have some useful information! :D

I wonder what a company like Logitech, or Razer's support call volume is the week before Christmas.
