I am building a new dual core rig a few days - I am new to the world of Intel Dual Core Gaming. Is there anything I need to know in the way of:

1. Tweaks
2. Helpful Dual Core Game sites
3. Windows Issues
4. Motherboard/Chipset issues
5. Anything alse

Thanks!
Here are the specs of my new machine
Intel C2d 6600, EVGA 7900 gt co, Asus P5B deluxe, Corsair XMS2 2x512g PC26400, Seagate Barracuda7200.10 250g 16mb cache Antec 450w PSU

well depedns are u new to intel's cpu overclocking? fsb : dram ratio is what u need to know, dram x 2 = DDR2, so u will need at least DDR2 533 = dram 266, but i would get PC5400 DDR2 667 or PC6400 DDR2 800, as they r pretty much the same price near that $150 to $200 range for 2GB

not a lot of games benefit from dual core, only some that takes advantage of dual core, the most obvious one is prolly oblivion, there is a big difference between single and dual core. Core 2 Duo is faster clock for clock ocmpare to any other cpu so even in single core its still really fast for most of the game.. for most games asl ong as u dont have unoverclocked celeron or semprom, ur good to play assuming u have good GFX

i suggest u save some of ur cpu money and spend it on gfx card when DX10 card come out, games r heavily GPU depeandent.. even oblivion is about 20 to 30% CPU and 70 80% GPU (check anad's article on oblivion) , whereas most game i would say is about 5% CPU and 95%GPU

most games at 1280x1024 or above dont respond well to CPU , so if u have pentium d 930 and Core 2 Duo X6800 , its the same FPS for both with the same (mobo, RAM , GFX card)... which is why i only got E6400 and am saving some more money on DX10 cards

Generally this is true, but there is a noticable gain in performance with a faster cpu. Even with the games being mostly reliant on the GPU there is still a good benefit from a faster CPU. Some games benefit more than others, but all games regardless...benefit.

but the difference between E6300 at stock vs X6800 at stock in most games is small, and if u saved all that money , u can get nice graphics card which will definitely make big difference (not to mention u can easily take E6300 pass X6800 clockl speed)

however what series of cpu u get is important, i used to have an Pentium D 920 at 4GHz it was pretty weak. the AMD X2 beats pentium D by a lot, but there difference between the X2's like X2 4800+ vs X2 3800+ wasnt that big at all....

i dont really know why gamers care about CPU that much, if u give me a GeForce 7950GX2 + Pentium D 930 i can score 10000+ on 3dmark06, and i can only score about 9000 with my setup which is E6400 3.4GHz + GeForce 7800GTX SLI 256MB version

My old system was a Amd San Diego 4000 with a EVGA 7900 GT CO with a the volt mod
I heard something about have to disable one of the cores in a dual core to play some games and didnt know if that was true?

hmmm, wow i thought my OCZ PC6400 DDR2 800 4-5-4-15 was too expansive (for $219 USD). oh yeah im talking about US Dollar.

i guess they r between $200 to $300 ... havent shop RAM for a while. look newegg, u should find some good ones in that range, $200 to $300

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi...+1052416064&Submit=ENE&SubCategory=147

most of em r in the $200's. Now if newegg sells them that way, other e tailers r cheaper, check ewiz or tankguys

GSkill 2GB PHU HZ is proly the best. it was like $260 but now its $300 ...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231065

it can do like DDR2 1100 4-4-4-4 with 2.4v vdimm i think, the highest i have seen was DDR2 1200 4-4-4-4 with 2.8v vdimm , but u dont wana put 2.8v into ur RAM lol

oh yeah this is my RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227085

but i bought 2stick of it, so 2GB for $219USD in Frys a store in California.
