Gaming Build Help

Hi, I'm looking to build a computer for gaming, mainly StarCraft II, however, I'm quite the newbie at this kind of stuff. So far from asking around on other forums I've been recommended the following for a budget of $600-700 and a monitor resolution of 1900x1080:

The total comes out to be ~$600. My question is whether or not you guys think this is a solid setup and if there's anything I should change. Better deals? Will this PSU work? Ect.

Looks good to me.

Not sure how the HDD you chose performs, but I would have gone for a larger capacity since they shouldn't be much more expensive (they're also cheaper per GB).
Edit: Ah I see... that HDD is that new weird uber fast one.

$50 shipped for a 320GB HDD is not a very good value.

$15 saved PSU/Case combo - more than enough power still and I prefer earthwatts to neo eco line, though if you plan to xfire the 5770s stick with the other combo.

Actually on second look you can't xfire that board even if you wanted to. So keep that in mind if you ever look for an upgrade.

Otherwise it looks like a pretty good setup. To get a bit more out of your CPU I'd look at a decent value cooler, probably the Cooler Master Hyper 212+, which can be had for like 20-30$ and should extend your OC a bit.

Alright, that Samsung F4 HDD got me interested, especially after seeing the thread here.

That "Data Transfer Rate / Media to/from Buffer (Max.): 285 MB/sec" made it sound rather absurd, but I did find a review here.

It's definitely fast for a HDD (sequential read/write), but I'd still go with an SSD for OS drive if you want snappiness (high I/O and uber low latency). Then using that 320GB HDD for storage doesn't make sense either, since it has such low capacity. You can find better $/GB with 1TB drives.

Then again, you have a budget... it's just weird that you want to buy a $43 320GB HDD when I've bought 1TB drives for $40 shipped.... Now that I know how fast the F4 is, it just doesn't seem worth the trade in capacity.

I have no need for a big hard disk (sorry for not mentioning that) since all movies/pictures are stored on a separate disk so all I will really be putting on this HD are school documents, games, etc. SSD's are way too expensive right now 🙁.

@darkewaffle : It seems the 520 watt PSU would be the best choice if I ever wanted to upgrade to a different gpu/cpu in the future no?

The F4 is impressively fast, but its cost per gig is pretty meh. I won't say no though. 😉

Regarding the case and PSU, I would probably grab a 430CX for $26 AR Apromo and the Three Hundred Illusion for $50 AR. People have run 5850's on the old 400CX, so I think the 430 will do just fine.

Well it's going to depend, a little. Most single GPU systems would run fine on that 380w Earthwatts, however if you're looking at a truly high end card (5870/5970/465/470/480, or even a very OCed 460) then you would want a higher capacity PSU. However, it's far more than necessary for a 5770 and will almost certainly be enough power for future midrange cards.
