So this is my first gaming build and I would just like to get some expert suggestions.

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Highend Gaming

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
$1600-1800

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
Canada

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
Intel and Nvidia

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
Yes I have searched many forums for answers

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
Maybe later on.

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.
1920-1200
9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
First week of October

I understand there are going to be newer prices in October and parts, but I want to have an idea of what I should get.

Monitor - http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...IN#detailspecs -$270

CPU - http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=023949 -$330

MB - http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=021131 - $195

Case - http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=031796 -$170

Cd drive - http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=029356 - $29

PSU- http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=014263 - $125

Memory - http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=031496 - $115

HD - http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=029337 -$95

GPU - http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=030348 -$330

So that's the build I was thinking. I may throw in a SSD. I don't know whether to get a i5 or i7 cpu and I'm not sure about the GPU either. If you guys have any suggestions or have a build for high end gaming in my budget range I'de appreciate the feedback. Thanks

With that processor, he needs to stick with 6GB ram or go up to 12 - triple channel memory.

Yes with an i7 you will need triple channel. You won't need more than 6GB even for "high end" gaming anyway. Build looks good to me. Personally I would look for G.Skill memory. They seem to have a good reputation lately.

Well couldnt he buy two 8GB kits and sell the leftover stick? ^^

I like the build OP, nothing major to point out. Dont think you need that powerful a PSU but whatever

950 is far too powerful for your needs, and the 850W PSU is about 200W too much.

Well I was looking at the 950 for the future more or less. The 850W I wanted it in order to use sli configuration when the time comes to upgrade.

the 950 isn't going to get any faster, it's going to stay the 950. The thing about the 8xx series is it benchmarks better in games, so why would you want to spend extra money for worse performance...?

As for the 850W, you can probably run 2 470s off a 750W, and even likely a 700W.

This site puts your builds recommended psu wattage at 538W with 2 470s.

You won't see a huge performance advantage in gaming with an i7, over an i5, but if you have the cash why not go for the i7? I would. Same with the power supply. Too much is better than not enough, and you never know what you will need down the road.

K thanks you made up my mind I'll go buy the i5 760 and downgrade to a lesser psu. Then since computers upgrade so fast I'll just have to buy a couple of parts during the year, which will probably save money for me in the long run.

Smart move. Davidh gave good advice, and it allows you to spend some of that $ later when there is new, improved hardware on the market.

Hey so I'm finally going to go out and buy the parts in the next week and just wanted to see if this build is worth the pricetag. I'm buying everything. Currently it looks like it will cost 1800 with taxes and before rebates. Without further adu...

CPU- $219 i5 760 http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=032427

MB- $145 Asus Maximus III GENE http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=033593

GPU- $300 EVGA GTX 470 http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=030348

Monitor- $260 ASUS VW266H 25.5 http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=021049

PSU- $160 Antec TPQ-850 TruePower http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=014263

Ram - $85 G.SKILL Ripjaws Series DDR3 1600MHz (PC3-12800) 4GB http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=026157

Hard drive - $70 Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=019453

SSD - $115 OCZ Agility 60B http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=032116

Case - $180 HAF X http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=031796

So that's the build. I am thinking about the Asus maximus because I want the sli and crossfire feature. I picked an 850W PSU for the future so it can run the new GPU at a comfortable level. I picked the case because it's big and has great cooling. I am open for opinions and will take everything into consideration. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks :)

Only thing is maybe wait another week or so for the 6xxx series cards to come out.

Other than that it looks good ;)

I would get something like a 750W because even an 850W is not enough for SLI'd 470's. A 750W will power any GPU that's gonna come out (remember the 470 and 480 are already bumping into the PCIe spec for max power). I would not bother with the Maximus for similar reasons.

The case is a personal choice, but $180 is kinda high.

750TX $90 AR
GA-P55-USB3 $135
Antec DF-35 $110

Alright, so I made up my mind. I'm going to wait a week until the 6000 series comes out and maybe grab a price cut 470 or 480 and then forget the sli get the ga-p55-usb3. It supports crossfire though right? But i probably won't use it because if the graphics are lacking I'll buy a better single gpu and I'll grab a 750W PSU. Also should i get 1333 ram or 1600? Thanks guys
