Hey everyone... Don't forget to check your Email for Buy.com coupons. I got an Email from them on 8/3 that gives me $10 off $75 or 10% off up to $500 so this deal would be $50 sweeter. I just tried it and it would be $1208.55 to my door. The stock status is "On Order" right now but I really wouldn't be in a big hurry anyway. I use a laptop for work and this is very very tempting...

Robor, I tried ordering with the buy.com 10% off coupon and they cancelled my order..

Now this was a week ago, and they're STILL selling it. What a bunch of BS artists. Anyways maybe they'll be honest about for you. Good luck.

one thing bothers me is that the resolution is a bit too small. Even if it's wide but with a wide at 1280 u wont be really able to open up windows side by side and use it comfortably.

For game like war3, do expect to see sqeeze up screen, imo, the wide screens are not ready for games yet as the resizing on lcds are pretty suck.

But fyi, I played cs well on my dell 8500 running in window mode, and I think i have a mobile 7500.

Is this laptop loud?

My friend has a HP one with a radeon9100 and it is uber loud. It also overheats easy when he has it on a bed.

also, i notice it has 2x 256 for ram, would i be able to upgrade the ram later?

Bad idea--The fabric surface is an insulator and the fan vents may be obstructed. Any high performance chip would get very hot in this setting.

Well, what do you know.

Acer's new laptop -- P-M 715 (1.5GHz) Dothan processor with new chassis and same specs as the previous model save for a lesser amount of RAM (256mb). It's approximately the same price.

i want to buy this laptop but the price is now at 1379... should i just buy at this price or should i wait for it to drop.

i think if i wait for it to drop then it could be discountinued and id be screwed.. im positive i want this laptop i just want the best deal!!!

any suggestions?

Don't buy it at NewEgg. According to other posters above, CDW and Buy.com have it for less at this time.

And, as I learned, NewEgg has a strict policy on laptop returns even if defective. I don't know what the laptop policies are for CDW and Buy.com

I'm trying to get this laptop as well, anyone have another company I could get it at cheaper than newegg? Preferably tax free from CA.

" it looks like CDW has horrible reseller ratings..."

Maybe so, but CDW is a HUGE company. As in Fortune 500. Perhaps they do have poor customer service but in the case of a defective laptop you're not going to be dealing with a penny-saving Mom & Pop shop.

hmmmmm you have a good point... i guess its all about risk so im going with CDW.

thanks!!

I have this laptop from a few months ago (before the price drop). If you can get it for under 1300...DO IT NOW! It's a steal.

Now as far as the Banias vs Dothan deal. It doesn't matter in real world use. Nothing. Zero. Zilch. Benchmarks' for gaming will be gpu limited. 3dmark2003 scores over in www.talknotebooks.com are all the same for both this model AND the one with the 2.0 ghz Dothan. Even a Banias it's a helluva deal. That said, if anyone is quibbling about the cpu, don't worry about it. My laptop runs in day to day tasks as well as my 3100xp desktop does. Obviously for heavy gaming I go to my desktop but short of playing D3 at the higher resolutions, this laptop can run virtually anything thrown at it. For what it's worth, I can play D3 800x600 @ med res and it looks great on my laptop. UT2k4 can be played at native resolution WITHOUT A HITCH.

god i hate myself for trying to buy it from buy.com. they were out of stock after they approved my cc, so now i gotta wait till they return my money to my cc. FCUKERSS!

FYI, I received the laptop on Friday. It was DOA. I'll have to either RMA to NewEgg or serviced thru Acer.

Update: I called NewEgg and was told that for laptops, NewEgg does not accept returns or exchanges. All problems are to be directed to manufacturor . . .
Final (?) update: Acer shipped the laptop back to me. Took exactly 7 days. According to Acer, the CPU had to be replaced. CPU-Z says it's a Banias.

The wireless on this laptop is bad. Very erratic. I've had reception only about 20% of the time. No signal even right next to the router! The few times it was connected, however, it was fast.

Lastly, no dead pixels. Overall, 3 stars out of 5. I subtracted for DOA and bad wireless. Another quibble: The bumps on the F and J keys are too small--I can't feel them 😀
