eb might pay their employees more, i dont really know. ive never looked into it. most of gamestop employees (besides management) tend to be kids in highschool. they work for peanuts, and dont really seem to care. plus we get about 5 new applications a day.

edit: ive worked in retail for about 10 years and met a variety of different people. your two friends quiting on the day before black friday says more about your friends than it does about gamestop.

Naw man. My friends are hardworking people. One of them that was an assistant manager at a Gamestop gave them his 2 weeks. I'm just saying his 2 weeks just happen to end on the day before Black Friday. He did not purposely plan that out. I would quit too if my district manager kept on making verbal threats at me. In fact, I know some people that left the abusive Gamestop to go work for EBGames. I can see a bunch of them quitting as we speak if they have to deal with the same DM again.

And also my friends were not "high school kids." They were both college students that knew what they were doing.

gamestop is no longer backed by barnes and noble. gamestop bought out the remaining shares in gamestop that B&N owned a few months ago.

I have an DM abuse issue with Gamestop as well..
after investigation I found that they had sheilded this DM from over 20 other accusations of abuse and EEO abuse...
Gamestop has some shifty practices.

And I thought EB was the giant between them and would have done the buying out.

Whoda thunk it?

It's not too difficult to fathom--Gamestop is backed by Barnes and Noble.

If you had no idea about that, it's kinda difficult to fathom. :)

My DM was a great guy, he never threatened me or anything, he knew I wouldn't take that kinda crap. The Regional Director was a competely different story. Slime from the first time I talked to him. The day I got back from a week and a half vactation, he "secert shopped" me before the store was even open over the phone and I didn't mention some retarded deal they had been pushing the week I was gone in the corp emails. I nearly broke the phone when my DM called me and told me that the RD wanted to fire me over that. Over the course of the next few months, I got visits from him because our store was a high volume store and he didn't think I was performing up to spec even though I was outperforming almost ALL ASMs in my district. No mention that the store looked good or that we had the lowest shrink in the entire region. My sub and reserves weren't high enough for him and if I didn't improve, I was to be transferred immediately. That was a blind threat that never had any backing as I stayed at that store for another 4 months before I quit.

The only reason I even knew he had it out for me was due to my old manager. At the National Conference, that RD pulled him aside and badmouthed me for half an hour. All sorts of BS.

Hector, you are fvcking slime. I will hurt you if I ever see you again. :|

I've got all sorts of repressed anger for Gamestop management. I honestly hope they fvcking die.

Interesting, I can't say that I've been very happy with EBgames lately. My last few purchases (Halo2, HL2, GTA:SA, NDS) have all been at my local best buy because Ebgames was sold out. As much as I dislike best buy for everything else, they have everything in stock...

EB buys and sells used PC games, Gamestop dont. Heck, my gamestops barely even carries computer games.
My EB got games usually 2-3 days earlier than the gamestop in the same mall. Preorders at EB rocked... Gamestop sux.

Gamestop does buy and sell used games....and they have always paid me more than ebgames.

ugh.... this is not good news at all...
EB was 200% a better company..
took way better care of its employees...

I know.. I was a store manager at both chains =/

You were but not anymore... I heard Gamestop was bad working you 70 hr a week and paying you beans. But EB had crummy DM's and the they broke the law by not paying me overtime which was due to me. It wasn't much so I wrote it off as a learning experience... they have no customer service they ran %60-%75 of their projected labor which was crappy to begin with. No way to run a company.

You need to learn to read. I didnt say they dont buy and sell used games... I said
They do not, have not, and will never buy and sell used PC (WindowsXP, DOS, Linux) games. Gamestop only buys and sells used CONSOLE (Gamecube, Xbox, PS2) AND HANDHELD(Bameboy, NGage, etc) games.

Old thread, but I was talking with my friend at school whose dad happens to be the CEO of EB. For those of you who thought the merger would have gone the other way, it almost did. Of course I'm too lazy to read the articles so I dunno if they already mentioned this, but EB initially made an offer for Gamestop, but Gamestop rejected and countered with a better offer for EB, which EB accepted.

Is there any chance of gamestop keeping all the stores open, so you think your buying from eb but you really not? They could completly control the competition and the customers would never know it.
