While your character remains nameless, you're no longer the same space marine who survived DOOM 3. This time, you play a combat engineer working under the command of Dr. Elizabeth McNeil, who worked alongside the nasty Dr. Betruger on Mars but was sent home as she began to suspect Betruger might be up to no good. "In the original DOOM 3 storyline, you can find bits and pieces of McNeil throughout," Hooper explains. "She's actually the whistleblower -- she saw all the things Betruger was trying to do and called Swann and Campbell to come down. In the original DOOM 3, you'll see emails from her to Swann, and if you run across her office, there are little bits and pieces in there."

Here is a link to the preview.

- Looks like they have some new screenies too.
- They talk about "Hell Time", which is very simular to Bullet Time like in Max Payne 2. Everything around you slows down except for you.
- They talk about The Grabber as well, which has an offical name now, "the Ionized Plasma Levitator". Silumar to the grav-gun in HL2.
- MP support will officially be expanded to 8 player now.
- Three Wave CTF will officially be included in the EP too.

so they have the grav gun from hl2
they have the "you play the role of a scientist" from hl

On the multiplayer side, support will officially be raised from four to eight players, and four new deathmatch maps are planned for the expansion.

I'm not optimistic at all

Halflife 2 wasn't the first game to have a gravity gun, ;)
Plus in Doom3 there was a monster that had a "gravity" weapon.

I'll probably go buy it too, if it's not to expensive and works in Linux. Doom3 was fun.

Which one had a gravity gun?

The big spider queen thing.

If you remember the first time you fight her there are those rocks and spikey egg thingies laying around. She would levetate them and fling them at you. The first time I fought her I didn't notice it except that there was something odd with some of the hits I was taking. I was to busy running around shooting like a maniac.

I thought she was kicking them at me.
But I didn't exactly stand around to watch how she was trying to kill me, just avoiding getting killed was enough for me :)

Probably won't buy it. I liked Doom 3 quite a bit for the most part. After playing some other games (HL2 / Far Cry / etc...) I think I may get bored with what Doom originally offered. I like games that take intelligence (Rome Total War / HL2) and not just fast twitchy fingers :)

Will probably pick it up, as long as I can pry myself from WoW.

Fixed.

Yawn.

Games like that are boring...

Lets kill rats for 4 hours and then I get a steel axe instead of a iron one, whoohoo. Maybe if I spend 8 more weeks playing I get one with a shiny jewel in it.

For me compitition is fun. I like playing against skilled players and having to out think people were you only have seconds to act. Somebody wins, you start over, do it again.

A favorite for a long time was Urban Terror and then it was True Combat.

I think they have their work cut out for them but the expansion might be worth buying. I liked bullet time in the Max Payne series, the gravity gun is my favorite weapon in HL2, you get to use the flashlight and a gun at the same time and it won't be as dark as the original Doom 3.

Of course just taking cool features from other games doesn't mean that this expansion will be good, but it has a chance.

Best Buy is advertising the expansion pack for only $10, and you get a free T-shirt? For that price, I'd give it a shot. Wouldn't wear the shirt though.

I see. Best Buy wasn't very descriptive on its website, but I guess the pre-order box will state what you said.
