Crysis was pretty awesome. One of the best games ever.

The Witcher is too an amazing game.

I find it funny and a little ironic that the Anandtech forums are being overrun by console fanboys. 😛

You're in the console gaming forum.

He said AT, not this forum in particular.

Read his post. He was responding to people who criticized Crysis and said Mass Effect was the best RPG of the year. Of course people in the console gaming forum are going to prefer console games. That doesn't indicate that AT is overrun by console fanboys. The PC gaming forum is just as active as this one. And who cares if AT is overrun by console fanboys anyway? 😕

Nor any nomination for Mass Effect for RPG. WTF??
(Edit: Nevermind... I see it on there now. Duh. 🙂 )

This list depresses me. AC is a good game, don't get me wrong. I rented it and thoroughly enjoyed playing through the campaign over the two days I played it. GotY for Action/Adventure? Hardly.
Best adventure game goes to a game I've never even heard of? What about Uncharted, or R&C?
The rest is more or less meh. Have to agree with the 'best games money can buy' statements.

EDIT: Also check out the Dubious awards. The 'Most disappointing game' was given (by gamestop) to Tiger Woods PGA08 despite it being the lowest in viewer votes.
Kane & Lynch got #1, with Lair in a close #2

Sadly, Crysis sales figures paint a grim picture for PC FPS gaming. I know I'm not alone in making COD4 my conversion from PC to console FPS gaming.

It would be nice if you didn't need a cray supercomputer to run it at 30fps -- Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing it in 2012.

IMHO, the problem, as Crysis has made blatantly obvious, is that stunning graphics that require a full upgrade to get the most off has taken the place of great game play. Of course sales of games are going to suck if you're only catering a game to the people with top of the line computers. Remember the good old days when listing the system requirements on a box was just a formality and even your grandma could hit those specs? Most of the games that have come out in the past couple of years just aren't fun. Even the Half-Life series has become a big yawn of the same re-hashed puzzles.

Why is there always this tradeoff between graphics and gameplay? Why does a game need to sacrifice one to have the other? People take one look at the graphics and think, oh there must be zero substance to this game outside of its flashiness.

This isn't the first time a game has come out with graphics that surpassed anything for it's time. Unreal in 1998 took nearly a full year before a computer could run it at 1024x768 with all details(a very high resolution back then). Yes, it still had excellent gameplay. Crysis does as well.

Whenever people buy PC games they feel the need to run it at all max details. This is why sales for Crysis have been so bad. People think the only thing to this game is it's graphics, and actually miss on a very good game underneath all the nice graphics.

Gamespot makes some decent game guides, but their reviews are absolute crap. IGN is about the only place I trust for reviews.

ugh.... I use to get the "big picture" by looking at Gamespy, Gamespot and IGN. Well, Gamespot is crap and pretty much always has been in retrospect (always under or over rates stuff, guess we know who didn't pay their bills now). After Gamespy's "blowing" of CoD4 in GotY awards, I'm drifting away. So IGN is now the only one I "trust"...
