But I hope I am wrong.....Anyway, I cannot seem to get a server online. I was trying to get a server online from a client machine of a 2PC network running ICS, but I have since given up on that and am trying to run directly from the internet gateway machine. I have done this for years and never had a problem until now. I am running Win 2k, and I have done it successfully in 2k before as well. One thing I have noticed is that the server tries to run using the local IP (192.168.0.1) and not the static intenet IP and I am not sure how to force it to pick up the other IP. I have however disabled the Internal network NIC and then it runs on the right IP, but it still does not connect to the internet (It's Action Half Life and I test it by searching at Gametiger). I thought well maybe my ISP has disabled the default game port because I used to run a gameserver 24/7, but I changed the port setting in C:\Sierra\Half-Life\Action\server.cfg but it still runs on the default port! In server.cfg it suggests I delete "game.cfg" as its settings might override server.cfg's but I cant find any file named game.cfg. Anyhow, I need to know 1. How to make AHL run on the right IP, 2. how to force it onto another port, and 3. What else might I be doing wrong because I am almost positive that my ISP would not block my port without notifying me. Thanks in advance!

when you got it up and running on the internet ip, did you try having someone connect to it? I dont know anything about AHL but it might take a while for the gametiger to update and see your server...

Ok, I can't remember exactly how I did this, you may have to do some more searching but I think you create a shortcut to your server .exe. Then use a command line switch that is something like -ip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Look through the helpfiles at adminmod. Thats where I think I found it.

There is a similar switch to set the port to anything you want and switches can be strung together.

are you sure that the router is set to forward that port to that computer?
i run a game server too on my 192.168.1.100 computer, it is set so that ports 27015-27025 go to that computer. when i connect to it to play, i have to use the LAN ip because otherwise it doesn't work

btw there's 12 people on that server right now so it does connect to the internet, i hope this helps :)

Chooco there is no router, its simply a 2PC lan on cat5 crossover cable, but still, if you know how I can make the server work online from the client machin in Win 2k could you please be kind enough to provide somewhat detailed instructions. I have tried everything I know to no avail.

The reason it's using the default port is that is does not run the server configuration file until after the program is started. You would have to put it in the command line in your shortcut to the dedicated server exe. Like C:\HLServer\hlds.exe +port 27999. When you start the dedicated server program, if it says WON Auth Server, it is connected to the net. If it doesn't say that, add sv_lan 0 to your server.cfg file. It should work.

I got the idea about the command parameters, in fact my server is up and running, its just that Chooco or somebody must know how to get the server working off my client machine. Some say it cannot be done, I know differently. I actually had a server running on a client machine before in XP but I either forgot how I did it, or its slightly different for Win2k.

All I know is that on my 2pc lan, both machines running xp and ICS, I was able to go into the network connection and set up a service that allowed the gameserver to be seen online from the client PC. I just wish I could do it again.
