Games you like from genres you don't

There are game genres I don't like much - and I've found a game in some of them I like.

I thought it'd be a twist on the lists to have people list those.

I don't care for racing games, but really enjoy the excellent Burnout Paradise. It has that almost 'just right' combination of interesting 'realistic environment with diversity, diversity of gameplay with racing/crashing/etc., and is a ball to go fast in. I've spent a lot of time racing around the city, and the expansion is fun too, and adds some new things.

I don't care for the hex-based wargame genre much, but when I tried the old Perfect General 2, it was a ball.

Honorable Mention: I don't really dislike the platform genre that much, but it's usually not too fun; an exception is the very creative Little Big Planet.

I can't say there are any PC games that fit the description for me. However, I normally don't like fighting games but I love all of the Super Smash Bros. games. I also don't like point and click adventure games but I love Phoenix Wright.

MMO's.

Guild Wars. Actually, I dont like Guild Wars, but it doesnt irritate me too badly. I just wish there was an easier way for me to run around the map and make progress. I have owned it for something like 4 years and am still stuck in the burning wasteland area. Anytime I try to make a party and run to a new area, tough enemies gang up and kill us all. BUT, my level is so high that those same enemies dont give me any XP for killing them, so I cant level up any more. And the quests are too tough and long and annoying.
I REALLY wish there was an offline mode for this game and I could play it like Final Fantasy or something. Not all the time, I understand its supposed to be a multi-player experience but I dont always want to do that.

EDIT:
Thats it. I dont really hate any genres. Except sports. And that has nothing to do with the games and everything to do with the company who makes them.

I'm not into RTS games, but love AOE2. I've tried to play all kinds of similar games up to Anno1404 and nothing interestes me.
Maybe it's the simplicity of AOE2?
That's the only genre that I don't enjoy the majority of games from.

I usually hate Turn-Based games (mainly based on that or even if it's just a "part" of the game). But I like the Total War series a lot (except for Empire which is disappointing generally speaking, even though I have some hope with the upcoming expansion for a better experience and more variety). Also I usually hate racing games, but I like the Super Mario Kart series (SNES, N64, Wii). And generally speaking I am far from looking for or being interested by fighting games, but I loved Killer Instinct (and its sequel too), Primal Rage, Tekken 3 and the Mortal Kombat series.

But the "rest", and there's plenty (of fighting games, I mean), have never really got me interested at all, and yes that includes the Marvel and Versus games and such titles, I think I played one or two of those at the arcades back a couple of years ago but that's it, I currently do not own any fighting games however on the PC, but I do own a few on some of my older platforms (SNES, N64, PSX, etc). The one genre I can say that I hate the most due to simple boredom out of them are Puzzle games, but, yes, like perhaps the majority I do like Tetris from time to time, but it's the only exception for that genre.

I typically hate golf games, but Tiger Woods 10 on the Wii is one of my favorite games now. The fact that I can swing a remote rather than tap a button at a precise moment makes all the difference for me.

Me too. Well, at least I tried WoW, and thought it was one of the worst games I have ever played. Eve is the only other MMO I have played, and I love it.

To be honest, I can hardly think of a genre I don't like.

Turn based - loved civ and aplha centauri, LotR 2
RTS - loved AoE, Settlers etc
Racing - love F1 and NFS series
sports - love golf, hockey, soccer
MMORPG - Asheron's call is one of my favorite all-time games, thought WoW was fun
Space sim - loved Freelancer and now X2
RPG - my favorite genre, have loved countless games
FPS - loved Deus Ex, FEAR etc
Sim-type - loved sim city

The only genres I haven't tried at all are mech games and flight sims.

If you want to get specific I detest football games. The deep passing (and passing in general) is always too easy and running is always artificially difficult. But I did pick up Madden 2005 for Xbox and enjoyed an NFL game for a while at least.

I also detest online-only shooters, mostly because of the puck-ass bitches that ruin those games for everyone. So if I actually find one I like it'll be the first.

The only games I hate are sports games, and there has been no exception thus far.

pharaoh is more simulation (city-building) than RTS i'd say.

Do you consider race games to be part of that?

Yeah, cause I consider racing to be a sport.

I used to hate turn based strategy games, but then my friend convinced me to give Civ4 a chance. I can't stop playing it now.

Amen. I'd still be playing if the server population was what it used to be. Absolutely best game I've ever played.

What server?

The only genre that comes to mind that I don't like are beat em up games like Marvel-Ultimate Alliance. I love vs. fighting games but beat em ups are just boring button mashers to me. Exception: Double Dragon 2 for NES

I'm the only other person so far (alongside Via) who doesn't hate a particular genre? I think there are good and bad games from every genre, but there are also some great ones that are fun no matter what you like. I guess I haven't played any hockey games that I liked if you want to get real specific.

Like I said, I only hate sports because of who's making them now.

MMO, i hate them with all the fury of zeus, but I loved Dark Age of Camelot from day 1. Its the only MMO that i have stuck with more than a week, in fact spent about 7 years on that sucker before every got pulled away to WoW and other lame mmo. DAOC would still be really strong community and server population if it did not have all the expansion packs.

Damn, it's been a while. I think my main char was on Frostfell or Leafcull (I think that's what it was called).

I had a Sho Blademaster that I leveled up into the low 40's.

Man I loved that game. It wasn't just the game play. It was the community.
